CHIANG MAI, 15 January 2019 (NNT) - Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister for security affairs has ordered law enforcement agencies based in the North of Thailand to crack down on illegal drug trafficking at the border.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan visited security personnel based in the northern region to provide them with moral support. During his visit, he received security briefings from Chiang Mai officials and police officers, as well as the elite Pha MuangTaskforce.

According to local authorities, the overall situation in the northern region is considered normal or within manageable limits. Despite that assessment, they admitted that there is evidence of greater illegal drug production along the border with Myanmar and Laos, as well as involvement by hill tribe minorities.

Gen Prawit thanked the officials for their tireless efforts to protect national security in the region. He issued a policy for military and police units to coordinate on the matter with all related government units and prevent narcotics and their chemical precursors from crossing the border.

The deputy premier ordered law enforcement units to destroy caches of illegal drugs, apprehend drug traffickers and wrongdoers regardless of their social standing and help young addicts to seek treatment and rehabilitation. He also called for special attention in cases of human trafficking and forced labor.

Of course they should be doing their job, but they only do it when there's the usual two week crackdown while it's in the public eye, then they will slide back to doing nothing - but still getting paid for it.

Oh, you mean it doesn't matter whether they have money, connections or a military/gov't position, they should still be apprehended? Oh he's just making a joke.

Well it does not take a genius to know that the drug trafficking needs to be crackdown on but it is a surprise that there was more than just an epiphany to do the crackdown but also a methodology on how it should be executed. The Toad hops again!
