webfact
Cash on delivery - but the parcels are empty Picture: Sanook Sanook reported that three Chinese men were arrested at a warehouse for what they described as a "new method of fraud". The Chinese had come into Thailand on tourist visas and set up in business. Their plan was to get names of victims from the internet and then send them packages they had not ordered. It was cash on delivery and many paid up thinking they were getting something nice. Police found 8000 fake packages in the warehouse in Klong Luang, Pathum Thani and 15 million baht turnover was mentioned. Sanook said the raid took place on November 24th last year on the orders of Surachet Hakparn in his role as deputy commissioner of the tourist police. Data for the victims was obtained either through "web phishing" or via websites that offer rewards, said Sanook. Thaivisa notes that the date in the story and the details about Lt Gen Surachet - now chief of the Immigration Bureau - indicate that the story may be old news. The story itself was dated yesterday.
