Or, even more likely, when the OP started figuratively waving around "thousands of pounds" the IO thought that a bribe was being attempted, hence his claim that it was illegal!

Exactly what I thought.

If you don't proactively show they money, they claim you didn't have any.  We have many reports of that variety.   In this case, the IO didn't want to see it, because that money was further proof he was about to stamp a lie into a rejected-entry stamp - which he did.

[emoji1787] I’m honestly amazed anyone buys that. You still have reporting, you still can’t work, so why throw that money away when an agent can take care of your visa for much less?

It doesn’t make financial sense unless you simply have money to burn.
So what's an agent going to provide for people younger then 50?

He's a nice guy, and I'm not sure what a used-car salesman looks like. Do you mean he looks dishonest?

He may be a nice guy - but could be cast in that role in a film - though could never surpass "Jerry Lundegaard" in Fargo.  Who knows - if the "tightening" (i.e. "blocking") of honest means of obtaining extensions continues, I may get to know him well, some day.

Some fellow remarked awhile back, that his Korean golf partners all use agents for their extensions.  Apparently, from their perspective, this seems like the natural/normal thing to do here.  I doubt it is because they "don't have the money" - they simply know it's not really about having the money or not.

I am glad it worked out OK in your case.  But, sometimes, even those with less than 6 mo in the country get a much more negative experience:

As this report demonstrates (and we don't hear the other hundreds of similar stories not posted here) even a older, 5-mo/yr Snowbirds from wealthy European countries are being targeted for harassment.  It is not because they "work illegally" or "cannot afford their stay" (the biggest lie they use) - or even "live here too much" (which is not a legal reason for denial) - but solely because they are using Tourist Visas, which don't feed a corrupt-money pipeline to immigration.

Thanks for reading my post and for commenting. Much appreciated. ????

i read your link, and I am sad that he had those problems. I am not sure what I would have done in those circumstances.

It is generally only when things go wrong that people post on this Forum; if things go ok then people don’t feel the need to post, and so we as a community don’t get to hear about them. It is easy therefore to begin to assume that the problem cases that get reported here are the ‘norm’ and that IOs are out to get us, or to squeeze money from us.

That was why I decided to post my story. I have had more TVs than most people without much trouble, despite the various theories that you read here about how many TVs you can have in a calendar year.

But I am not sure if my experience, which includes flying several times from Surathani to DM, is the ‘norm’ or whether I have just been exceptionally lucky.

Forums exist of personal opinions, and you didn't understand the saying to start with.

Absolutely correct. Unfortunately that doesn't allow for those with a looser handle on the intricacies of social discourse to stick their oar in uncharted waters.

We all knew what you were trying to say, but never mind Frits, you're not the first non-native English speaker to mangle an olde English chestnut.

Maybe a bit too much info. I doubt if not having tatooes or a moustache, or not smoking or drinking has any relevance to being allowed entry.

Thanks for the feed back. Much appreciated ????

The reason I included such personal details (and I agree that I did go on a bit!) was because of TunnelRat69’s earlier comment (near the top of page 4 of this thread). It’s quoted below.

I was trying to show that people tend not to notice or remember me, unlike the man that was stopped and rejected in TunnelRat69’s post. He may have had a heart of pure gold, and back home was known for helping old ladies to cross the road. Sadly at BKK Airport his outward appearance counted against him..

Age, nationality and ethnicity are also some of the unstated criteria in any Thai IO's decision-making process.

TunnelRat 69: Darker skin, disheveled dress, alcohol breath............tattoos on the face, neck, hands, spell 'criminal' in their eyes - yeah, stereotyping is alive and well in Thai Immigrations..........me and my lady had ti wait while they questioned a 40 something guy with tattoos all over his body as evidenced  by his wife beater tank top, spoke with a heavy british accent..........they (two female IO's) refused him entry and he was taken away - I understand a fair amount of Thai and heard bits of their converation with each other "Farang Na Gliete"  "Bak Men"  'Key Mao Lao'  things like that..........its all up to the interviewing officer.  I don't care what kind of Visa you have, it's up to them if you pass their station.  Quite frankly I would have thought the airlines would have had a problem letting him board, I could smell him 10 feet away.

I got the same problem as you, they stamped that I don't have money in my passport, I came back a month later with an elite visa, and now they escort me with a golf cart inside the airport each time I come here with big smiles and golden suits. When I was deported they put me in a cell full of africans and indians and I was treated like a criminal too.

Are you that seriously bored to think expats here would be remotely interested in your essay.

I am not bored in Thailand; I love it here. So much to be grateful for ????

I love writing. I could have spent the afternoon on the beach here in Hua Hin walking along the shoreline, watching everyone enjoying themselves and having fun, but chose instead to type up that post.

BTW, out of interest, which ‘Jack’ do you get ‘tanked up’ on before you come online? Is it Scrumpy Jack, or Jack Daniel’s or is it any old Jack Sh*t that gets you going?

That goodness this tripe was shorter than your previous. Nonetheless, realize now your living hua hin, I understand the boredom.

At very least nice white sand.

ED or Non-O based on Volunteering, most likely.  Even if you do the ED legit via the school, and attend all your classes, there is likely still "agent type chicanery" involved for every 3-mo  extension.

Other options, like setting up a non-profitable business for a visa, or paying a BOI company for the same, are even more expensive than the elite.

I'd stick with Tourist Visas and safe entry-points, for as long as that is viable.  Then consider the ED as "Plan B".

So, their lawless lie-stamp in your passport worked, then (obviously, you had the money) - and they got what they wanted.  The supervisor who dragged you through that hell may have bought a new car with "bonus payments" earned from the suffering inflicted on you and others.

Too bad the arrest and trial of the crooked-supervisor could not be arranged as part of the 'elite visa' bargain.  If they added that as a sweetener, they could sell a lot more of them.

Because not everybody wants to resort to illegal actions.

You miss my point. Men can have male partners/boyfriends.

If that was your point, then I guess you missed where the OP referred to his partner as "her":

I answered I have a Thai partner and like to spend time here with her,

So not people making assumptions, just people reading what the OP posted.

It is dishonest IOs who carry-out / facilitate most of the illegal things in this context - with the elite being one of the likely reasons they do it.

Whether blocking-entry for illegal reasons, processing agent-supplied applications with incomplete requirements, or adding extra "undocumented" requirements to honest in-person expat's applications, the logical explanation is kickbacks paid to the IOs breaking the law.

I actually regret paying that much money after what they did to me. I will not renew the visa and I will leave the country when it's over.

Thailand should have the same rules for everyone and in every immigration office, rules should be clear and not up to the officer.
