While Thais just stare brave "farang" comes to the rescue in Chinatown stabbing

Police in the Yaowarat area of Bangkok praised the actions of a foreigner who came to the rescue of a man who had been stabbed repeatedly by a monk.

The incident happened Friday outside a hotel in the famed Chinatown area of the capital.

A 45-50 year old monk named as "Phra Niwat" is in custody after he attacked a layman in the street with a knife.

The reason for the attack is not yet known as the monk's evidence is confusing.

There was a lot of blood from head wounds but as a local crowd of people looked on in horror the Westerner stepped forward to offer assistance in first aid.

Pol Lt Ongart Singhaphakdee of the Plapplachan police praised the actions of the foreigner who was the only one brave enough to step forward and help. He offered assistance despite the fear of possibly being assaulted himself.

And I thought I had heard it all...

--Monks raping and otherwise abusing minors

--Monks doing drugs

--Monks with porn

--Monks with millions in their bank accounts

--Monks riding in private jets with designer accessories....

But no, that wasn't all... Now can add to the list, monks stabbing with knives...

What the hell is Thailand coming to,the country is

getting crazier by the day.

eh you know it has always been like this, it was actually worse before.  It's just that majority of expats and tourists never come across crime news in thai, 95% of crimes never get published in english.

Try reading the British tabloids.  Stabbing is really getting out of hand back there.

as usuall a person commenting about their homecountry when it is an article about crime in thailand, i see this everywhere on facebook, youtube and when i point out that thailand has more murders or violent attacks they laugh and say i've been to thailand it is perfectly safe and thai people are the most well behaved people, i get it that brits are worried about Londond and UK, the funny thing is thailand has 5-6 times higher murder rate than UK.

A man in an orange robe is still a man. Many of them (from what I read) are nothing more than the man you see on the streets in "anywhere-Thailand". So of course there is going to be some (maybe many) bad apples. I for one do not put them on a pedestal, far from it.

It was reported in Khaosod that the victim died from his injuries today.
The Thai 'Morning News' TV program gave more details. After his arrest the monk said the deceased had come up to him begging for money but he had refused and walked away.
The deceased followed him and began taunting him saying he was invincible and knives couldn't harm him which enraged the monk so he stabbed him then waited for the police to arrive to give himself up.
However witnesses said the altercation was sparked by the victim accusing the attacker of being a fake monk.
This was also alluded to in the comments section of Morning News' Youtube report of the story where several Thai posters said he was well known in the area to be a fake monk and the victim was a good man who wasn't a beggar.

You could replace "Monks" with "Catholic Priests," or any other religious sect,  and have the same result

You could, and many posters in other countries and on other websites do. But let's stick to the story at hand and not mankind in general. Because that could go on indefinitely.

Also, I think the 'Jains' may disagree with you on the 'any other religious sects' part.
