PHUKET: Police believe that the 60-year-old man who died after his car slammed into a pickup truck at high speed on the bypass road yesterday morning (Jan 25) may have been committing suicide after murdering his long-term partner with a knife in their home in Phuket Villa 5 housing estate in Wichit.

Panuruj Petchai, 60, died after his red Toyota Corona slammed into the side of a pickup truck in a U-turn lane on the bypass road at about 10:50am yesterday. Panuruj died at the scene in the high-speed impact. (See story here.)

At the time, police believed Panuruj was driving back to his home province of Nakhon Sri Thammarat.

How about he was just driving very fast to get as far away from the incident as quickly as possible.

Just as feasible, probably more so, than the suicide theory.

The picture taken from the camera in his car just before the collision showed he was off the line of the road and heading directly at the pickup.

At the time I thought perhaps his brakes had grabbed and veered to the right or the theories about a heart attack or falling asleep were likely.

I didn't consider him to be aiming it at the other vehicle.

I do now.

you should know better, if the BIB say suicide, after their 2 minute thorough, extensive, and in-depth investigation, suicide it is, because they know these things.

If his intention was to drive back to his home province I don't think he was committing suicide on the way... he was speeding &  hit a truck doing a U-turn.

Oh and bye the way it wasn't an accident, it was a CRASH !!!

Perhaps a few of the people decrying suicide as a possibility should watch the full video so they would at least have the full picture:

That sure looks like suicide. No mention about the condition of the truck driver.

Yup, the video quite clearly shows him driving very fast along that u-turn lane and at the last minute steers into the side of the pick up.

I would say that the video shows his full intent to kill himself.

A shame he didn’t do it without involving another vehicle.

When I first watched the video I noticed he moved into the right turn lane and then he sped up. At the time I thought it looked like a deliberate act, but dismissed it as not plausible. IF it was then it is a pretty selfish way to involve an innocent third party, what if there were young children in that pick up......
