rooster59
Chiang Mai father shoots himself dead at same spot son committed suicide By The Nation A grieving father was found dead in front of his house in Chiang Mai's Mae Wang district early on Saturday in an apparent suicide at the same spot where his son killed himself last year, police said. Pol Lt Col Natthapol Jaikantha, deputy commander of the Mae Wang police station, said Chankaew Sopha, 57, killed himself with a homemade sawn-off shotgun while lying on a mat in front of his house in Moo 6 village in Tambon Mae Win. Natthapol said the shotgun was still in his hand and he shot himself in the mouth. A suicide note was found nearby, saying he had attempted to kill himself nine times previously and this time he was confident he would be successful. The suicide note said Chankaew wanted to join his son in the next life. His neighbours told police that they saw Chankaew lying on a mat in front of his house before they heard a gunshot. They came out to check and found Chankaew dead. Neighbours said the man became depressed after his son committed suicide at the same spot in the middle of last year. Krataiboy
Thailand is in the 25 percent of countries with relatively low suicide rates, according to a 2016 global survey. Interestingly, for every female suicide here, four men or boys take their own lives. Hard to explain, since this is still very much a patriarchal society where being born male bestows many automatic privileges.

Seem to be a lot of suicide stories in the news, even taking into account the "suicides" of westerners which seem a bit more suspicious. In New Zealand, males top the suicide stats as well. Suicide is the single biggest killer for young NZ males, generally because men don't want to be seen to be talking about mental health issues. I wonder if it's the same dynamics at play here - patriarchal society where the man has to be seen as strong?

I wonder if it's the same dynamics at play here - patriarchal society where the man has to be seen as strong? Suicide is also the biggest cause of death among young British men, who take their own lives at three times the rate for women. I can't help wondering how much the non-stop demonising of "privileged" white males by feminists and other minority groups is contributing to this tragic waste. There is a worrying trend for societies across the West to become increasingly intolerant, of each other as well as outsiders. Everywhere one looks, it seems sexual, religious and ethnic differences are widening, political polarisation increasing, and the nature of public discourse is more vituperative. Here's a chilling thought. After the divisive hell of the prolonged Brexit debacle - whatever its eventual outcome may be - can the Disunited Kingdom ever get back to being the tolerant and compassionate society I was so proud of? Most of the deaths are in the same age bracket as those with possible suicidal tendencies?

Simply being white and male these days is an automatic cue for misandric feminists and "oppressed" minorities to put the boot in. And not everyone has a rhinoceros hide as impervious as yours or mine.
