Road carnage continues unabated as most die in a single day since New Year

 

 

Daily News reported that 68 people died at the scene of road accidents in Thailand on Monday.

 

According to their figures it was the worst single day death toll since the so called deadly days of New Year.

 

They reported that 1,294 people have died in Thai road accidents since the start of the year. 

 

 

This figure will rise as those that die in hospitals and other deaths are added to the lists. 

 

Daily News showed a video of one accident on Monday - a car turning right in to the path of a truck. 

 

They also reported on the death of a mobile crane lorry driver whose crane hit power lines while he was lifting ceramic tiles on a roadside. 

 

The resulting electric shock and fire killed 29 year old Watchara Khongsathit.

So who is actually surprised by this piece of news?  There are many uncertainties in the world but the one thing you can one hundred percent rely on is that the standard of driving in Thailand will never improve.

The Koreans practice fake funeral experiences on suicidal people. Perhaps that could be added to the thai driving tests? Go forward, reverse, park, then a few hours in a coffin.

It has got to the stage that saying anything is absolutely pointless, we all KNOWE Thais never take any criticism, knoiw everything and certainly cannot be told what they are doing is wrong or stupid.

So unless punitive penalties are introduced and a complete change in enforcement and subsequent costs to the offenders made almost too expensive we will not see any change, except perhaps the cost of funerals going up.

Where Thai roads and Thai drivers are concerned the criticism of those criticising Thai's (otherwise called 'Thai bashing') is the one area such criticism is justified....

Thailand, take responsibility and change behaviour on the road. Step one, follow the road rules. Step 2, become courteous drivers jnstead of rude, ignorant <deleted>. Step 3, stop speeding.

Until they take a stance on safety like the West, things will never change, enforcement is needed, along with a point system tied to mandatory insurance. Then they need proper towing services where the violators are towed, and costs to get the vehicle out of impound goes up daily until the costs reach the value of the car/motorcycle and it goes to auction. When people start going broke, and have their vehicles sold off at auction, they will think twice about being stupid. But all that is useless without proper drivers training, testing, and licensing. I figure Thailand is about 50-100 years away from that, so don't hold your breath as they continue to act like mental midgets and kill each other off by the thousands.

It would be interesting to see a proper breakdown down and analysis of stupid driving / riding leading to deaths. My observations would suggest maybe 20% of car drivers and 85% of motor cycle riders require something between the ears other than a vacuum with a major portion of the others being good to marginally ok drivers /riders.

Thats about what I believe goes thru their heads, at least until their own family members are part of the carnage, then they seem to think its just "bad luck". You have to wonder who employees people who can't even figure out how to safely get down the road? Do you feel safe in their care, say in a taxi/bus/overloaded mini-van/ambulance/airplane/boat/etc?

Didn't think the driving standard could get worse but in the last 2-3 months it surely has every time I go out but why? Its my thought they just want to get more likes on social media the bigger the crash the more you take out the better the rating if you die in the process at least you will be liked a lot????
