Strange headline!

Is the fact that he is white(farang) the point of interest?

Is the fact that he is probably a tourist of interest?

Can you imagine the New York Times saying, "well dressed African....." or the Guardian writing, "well-dressed Asian......"

If we were living in New York, I'd expect the headline to be 'Well dressed Tourist.....' although it would be difficult to determine that a person is a tourist just from CCTV.  In this case they'd probably put 'fat, old white man caught on CCTV shoplifting'.

Here in Thailand most of us want to know if the person was Thai, or Non Thai and as we have a convenient term to describe Westerners why not use it?

Don't know about you but I have zero interest in stories about Thai's shoplifting, but a story about a farang does interest me slightly.

This is an expat forum, of course the main point of interest in many of the stories is the fact that the story involves an expat.

Doesn't look like he was trying to steal it.  Looks more like he was just carrying it off to find where to pay.

Although he didn't look like the sharpest tool in the shed either.

What is it that looks to you like he was not trying to do exactly what he did do?

Not exactly good at it i bet its the first time he tried it ..

This inexperienced old fart of a shoplifter just want to feel his heart beat a little faster than when he is together with his wife of a lifetime  - In Thailand there are several ways to make this happen and shoplifting is obviously one of them ....

If "farang" wasn't in the headline, most (including yourself) probably wouldn't even be reading this thread.  It's also a point of interest because it's not common to see a "well-dressed" farang shoplifting.  Pretty darn rare, actually.

Did he really look like he was trying to hide the bag he selected, or simply make sure he had a good hold of it in the one hand he was using to carry everything?

He walked away with the bag in clear view in his hand.   It doesn't look like the kind of shop where you use a shopping basket, so you pickup items you want and then have to go find where to pay.

That fat old Geezer is 'smartly dressed'? 555

Guess because got on long pants and a shirt? ????

He’s not too badly dressed- at least he was not wearing those elephant pants. Compared to the guys you see nursing a beer for breakfast- this is sartorial elegance.

Mind you I have a suspicion even if he was wearing Armani , with his fabulous figure - would look the same.

Not very smart move to be so 'smartly dressed'.

Not smart to make such a move in front of a cctv unless you are there for a few seconds of fame ...:whistling:
