But our entity, not theirs.
We can decide our own matters, not have it done for us by the EU commissioners.
That’s the difference.

Oh, the arrogance is dripping from your post. No wonder you are a JRM fanboy. Not too much consideration being shown to the nations of union to the north.

It was the whole UK referendum. They all, you all, had the same vote as us and the Leaves have it.
We must all Leave together, for a fairer Britain, not just Leaving for a few. We’re stronger together. Hmm, am I mixing up my campaigns here?
Yes, a fan of JRM too.

Your unelected bureaucrats are ignoring the will of the Scottish people. Not surprised they all wanna leave that failing bloc. A divided society full of hatred; a growing far-right; companies withdrawing investments and issueing warnings; no leadership; currency dropping... better leave the sinking ship now!

Sinn Fein is not the issue.

The issue is the Tory Government doesn’t have an answer to the problems Brexit prents to the Irish border.

It’s another example of the mess Brexit is.

A friend of mine who lives in Scotland has just sent this to me.

By the way he is a  citizen of the Republic of Ireland.

"Pls read as it took me a few mins to type it..lol.. " Back off the Irish Backstop": The Irish screaming that the Irish backstop must remain are deluded. No deal will effect Europe as much as -- and in some cases, more than - the UK. And when the French farmers realise they cannot get rid of their cheeses across the border before it rots, and the Spanish - who sell more goods and services to the UK than it buys - are stranded with the decaying goods and when German cars sales slump because tariffs make them too expensive I predict riots across Europe. And then Michael Barnier ( member of EU) will have a small dose of the pain he has inflicted on our MP T.May. The reality is that citizens of these European countries whose jobs will be under threat by a NO Deal will not give a hoot if there is or isn't a hard border in Ireland. And frankly, all companies collect VAT for the Government and PAYE for them, so why not let them do the same for tariffs and be their own custom offices??. The Government can audit them once every three months then the problem can be solved...…… ( Karren Brady).

Boy that is a bit muddled written by someone who knows nothing about economics and trade.

You know when people EXPORT goods that they don’t need to be inspected by customs on the way out from the EU (or anywhere else).

And for someone who has just accused me of being some sort of heartless corporate so and so, your proposal to allow companies to ‘self regulate’ on payment custom duties comes right out of the playbook of a corporate lobbyist. All your proposal will do is lead to massive smuggling and under reporting.

The likely scenario is that the UK, as a small open economy out on its own will likely need to keep its relative tariffs low. Irish goods and services will still find the English market accessible.

That is hilarious. :cheesy::cheesy:5th Largest economy. Whats the others behind the UK, tiny!

The UK will be able to make its own tariffs from the protectionist EU. They are 'bricking it' at that very prospect.

The 5th largest economy suddenly, of its own volition, stripped of any and all international trade deals.

Someone tell me why the Irish government didn't put a border up when the IRA were killing Protestants (and Others) for years during the 1970s-1990s. Funny how it was important then but it is now!

Maybe if the intellectually lazy Brexiteers could be bothered to read the details and implications of the backstop agreement there might be some progress in the discussion.

The whole of the CU is about tariffs. Isn’t that what Remainers like? Or do you still think the EU is only about going through the same immigration lane on your holidays?

Tariffs are always there, unless negotiated otherwise. The importance of UK having our own tariffs is that we can decide exactly what they are, to suit or national interests. Tariffs imposed by the EU bloc have proved to be not always in the UK’s interest.

When we Leave we can have zero tariff on imported foods and clothing, if we decide. I’d happily impose tariffs on all new Landrovers produced in the EU. Same punitive tariffs on all products previously manufactured in UK factories that are now imported from cheap labour EU countries.

The UK’s  post Brexit tariffs and trade regulations will be dictated by the nations the UK goes begging to for trade deals.

Enjoy.

The E.U wants a trade deal with the UK , they want to sell us their Champagne , Mercedes Benz , Swiss watches and chocolate , Stella and Kronemberg , Armani and Versace and all the other things that we buy from them , we are a huge market to other E.U Countries and we have no need to beg for anything

Just watched last nights Panorama on Brexit. For the BBC it wasn't too biased although Phil Childs isn't my cup of tea but it is worth a watch. What I got from it is that the people in the programme are prepared to leave without a deal and know that the backstop is all about, tying us too the EU.

The UK is currently in the EU.

The ‘no deal’ Brexit many here are more than pleased to see the UK end up with will leave the UK begging for trade deals.

Enjoy.

If we buy more than we sell from any given country, it can be argued that that country needs us more than we need them, but for argument's sake, why don't we just say "we need each other", as i think that fairly accurately reflects the situation, doesn't it?

Stating however that the UK will have to "go begging for trade deals", is the real nonsense here. You might expect this sort of trash talking from people who aren't Brits, as talking down another country could be regarded as another way of talking your own country up, but when it is coming from Brits themselves, belittling and talking down their own country, it shows why the country is in the mess it is in. Desperate EU fanatics putting remaining in the EU above all else.

Suggest you go read a few ‘free’ trade agreements elsewhere and the look at the effectiveness of their implementation.

A new term you are going to learn: ‘non tariff barriers’.

So you giving up frictionless access to one of the biggest and most developed markets in the world (not to mention the trading leverage that comes with it), to get the equivalent of 30% of that access back from other markets via extended and unnatural supply chains. And which will take you 10 years at a minimum to negotiate that access, if you are lucky.

But hey, blue passports. So it must be worth it.

So you don’t like the hard fact that a ‘no deal’ Brexit would leave the UK without any international trade deals and that in such a position the UK would be extremely vulnerable in the trade deals the UK must then rush through.

Desperate to cap-in-Hand begging is not an attack on or talking down the UK, it is a recognition of the extremely weak position a no deal Brexit places the UK.

And the UK is in this mess because People voted for Brexit, they own the mess it has nothing to do with Remain supporters.

Argue with that and less of your emotive nonsense.

Yes, cause all your LSE and Oxbridge trained economists at HM Treasury are going to turn themselves into hairy anti-free traders overnight and put up tariffs.

Trade economics 101 (for these chaps at least). You lower your tariffs even though the other guys aren’t to maximize economic benefit for your own country.

The UK is going to let all these products in anyway, trade deal or not.

I agree there would be pressure on negotiators to buckle down and sort out deals ASAP, but i don't agree it would be to the point of Britain having to "go begging for deals", and maybe having a bit of urgency might not be such a bad thing for focusing minds and getting on with things. I think this simply comes down to how much confidence and belief you have in the country and how much you don't.

UK is not in the mess it is in because people voted to leave. The politicians were the ones who decided that they would turn the decision over to the people. The politicians should have prepared for the vote going either way. They didn't. They prepared only for the vote going the way they wanted it to. It didn't, and ever since, they, or at least most of them, have been trying to find ways of getting out of following through on what they promised, cheered on and encouraged by remainers in the media and in the public, like you. Remainers have been behind this mess from start to finish.

Glad you’ve eventually realised that. Please tell all your Remainer mates that trade with the EU will not stop, and the sky will not fall in.

Tariffs on those products? Well that depends on the EU reaction to our exports to them. Better sort it all out quickly now.

Oh dear. The UK is going to let all the stuff in anyway. It’s basic economics for a country like the UK which is out on its own.

The EU isn’t. They’ve got leverage. You want a FTA like Canada does with the EU? Good, get in line and take the 10 years which it took Canada. Australia has still been waiting after a similar amount of time.

That’s right, 10 years to negotiate a sub standard trade deal to the one you already have.

We're only 'giving up' a parasitic dictatorship. If the EU was as wonderful as the other side would have us believe we would gladly have stayed.
