Two foreign tourists - a husband and wife - had a nasty shock yesterday when they found the rotting remains of a monk while visiting a Lamphun cave.

The couple had entered the Thor cave in Mae Tha district about forty meters when they noticed a terrible smell.

On a path by some rocks they found a tightly bound package wrapped in white plastic and cloth. They called the Thakat police.

Rescue services retrieved the corpse of a man that was encased in a mat, bed sheet and monk's clothing.

The corpse was bald headed and police deduced that he was probably a monk. The body resembled a mummy and had been there for several months.

They are treating the matter as a murder inquiry, reported Daily News.

Nothing escapes the police.

Apart from the Red Bull heir of course.

Might have been a copy monk who stepped over the line.

Very competitive business ????

'copy monk'?

Can you Xerox them now? Thinking about it, I don't see why not, apart from the obligatory warning: Morals not included.

RIP, poor tourists

Stupid tourists. They should not be entering caves without appropriate safety measures taken. Some of these caves are very dangerous with sheer drops and falling debris. Others have high levels of bat feces or are home to various snakes and dangerous insects such as spiders and centipedes.
