Pattaya reassures Chinese diplomat about tourist safety

PATTAYA:--Pattaya officials tried to assure a top Chinese diplomat that the city’s marine sports and transportation are safe.

Top police and Marine Department officials welcomed Zhou Guangxu, second secretary at the Chinese embassy in Bangkok, to city hall Jan. 21.

They prepared a presentation explaining the security provided to tourists before jumping on a boat to Koh Larn to let Zhou see for himself.

Upon arrival at the tourist island, members of the Pattaya Jet Ski Association, Sea Walker Association and Koh Larn ferry operators showed the second secretary the efforts they’ve made.

The operators said signs in Chinese have been put up showing both regulations and calls for tourists to move carefully while boarding boats, to always wear life jackets and behave safely while in the water.

Pattaya and other tourist destinations have been desperate to woo back millions of Chinese travelers who canceled plans to visit the kingdom after 47 of their countrymen were killed in a July boat accident in Phuket.

Do they have enough life vests for each passenger?  120 people =120 vests. Are the boats marine surveyed inorder to conform with international  standards.? Will the skipper(sic) never permit more passengers onboard than boat is licenced for. Luckily , China is pretty thick when it comes to marine safety standards so Thais will get away with it.

In an additional safety measure...all Chinese tourists will receive a free 'Lucky Cat' amulet they can keep and treasure for years to come.

Did they demonstrate how they "reclaim" lost revenue and repairs when the vessels are damaged?

Or possibly their extensive expertise and experience of rescues when the boats sink?

Perfect, that is reassuring. Will solve most of the capsizing problems now, not to mention the odd water inferno.

Blaming the Chinese again~did that work last time?

Why don't they do their own inspections?  They have the leverage

The real purpose of the visit was for the Chinese diplomat to receive an envelope full of reassurance. The Chinese are just as bad as the Thais about the sanctity of human life and are willing to be just as deceptive. Where would one suspect the Thai's learned this behavior? It's all about the accumulation of wealth.

Well there's 21% of the human race written off at a stroke. Impressive research sir.

Yes, with a fishing fleet of a mere 28,300 vessels and a commercial fleet of 172,000 vessels, plus the PLAN they're obviously behind the door when it comes to marine safety. How all those vessels have survived is a complete mystery.

Come forward Mr Lucius and accept the Chinese New Year Award for 'Most Sinophobic Sweeping Unproven Statement of the Year.' Take a bow, son.
