Where are their imagined threats coming from? External threats from their neighbours, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos or Cambodia? Or internal threats from within stemming from civil disobedience? Or both?

The south, maybe, in the form of Muslim induced, Iran paid, terror?

Or from the east of Myanmar by those even the military of said country have no control over?

Ir maybe the growing silent tension within Cambodia which could easily spill over into Thailand?

These are not imagined threats, Sir, but real ones.

In reality much of the material of the Thai military is at the end of it's lifespan or hopelessly dangerous to use for the soldiers.

Thinking it is now peace and getting rid of your military now is rather stupid, be prepared for change.

As the west if finding out now.

I can agree with comments on some orders, or with whom the orders are placed, but in general, sorry, the Thai army needed to renew and upgrade, for real threats, and existing situations.

Well, we know what side they will be on if there is a war.  :cheesy:

If the history of Thailand in the Second World War is anything to go by then white flags would be a safer and more cheaper investment.

You forgot the ghosts invading Thailand. Need proof? Just watch those endless soaps on TV!

On a more serious note, while the boys in green spend as if there is no tomorrow, let's not forget all those kids upcountry where parents hardly manage to pay for basic education (like shoes or uniforms); a mandatory element to the grateful "education" provided by the same greenies.

Think this is a thing of the past? Well, here you go:

the force will acquire three armored personnel carriers, 12 mobile artillery units, 10 maintenance vehicles, 12 armored command vehicles and three armored medical vehicles.

At this rate of military hardware acquisitions, the military will have to add another army general.

The only threat is from the country they're buying these things from.
