Farangs in Thailand: "They break the rules but the authorities protect them"

I don't believe them. This guy might be overreacting (!) but he keep insisting he withheld the rent because the woman refused to give him a receipt. I find it hard to believe that he would simply refuse to pay the rent and lock himself in because he didn't have the money or didn't have any reasonable excuse.
Just ask the lady to show a copy of the receipt, or at least let her answer the question: did you refuse to give him a receipt, if so why?

Right, and maybe ask her if she registered him as a foreigner in her property at the immigration office (TM30)... I bet not!

Oh really, that's why a farang can get 100,000b fine for smoking on a beach and a farmer burning a 100 rai gets a 500baht fine if he's unlucky.no mention of the landlord not wanting to give a receipt for the rent.he didn't rent the house off the son or daughter who he originally asked when paying the rent.no receipt,no rent.simple as that....best bit of advice is never rent off a Thai who to me are the worst people to deal with except Nigerians.

Thais can also get fined for smoking on the beach , although the reality is that no one has been fined 100 000 B for smoking on a beach

What She says is true , if a Thai doesnt pay his rent , he would be forced, one way or another to leave the property , this guy is getting special protection because hes a Westerner .

Surely they could sort this issue out , without such a fuss ?

Just ask her to produce her official receipt book and we might start believing her.

"Foreigners break the rules in Thailand and nothing is done. They are even protected.

"We are Thais and this is our country but we can't take any action. If it was someone from Burma they wouldn't be given this protection. "

Madame may I say that you seem be be grabbing an opportunity to be xenophobic. ONE Brit who seems to have gone bonkers broke the rule.

Try getting 100,000b out of a Thai, then try getting 100,000b out of a tourist who's been stuck in a cell for a few days.they will use you like a hostage.ive had a friend from uk done for drink driving and held this way (50,000b) or the threat of court and monkey house for long time.he was a tourist and never knew better so coughed up.ive had the same in Phuket airport.2 bottles of spirits and some viagra I bought in Thailand.do I want monkey house or can we help ourselves to your holiday money.(35,000b)

To me it sounds like she is angry because farang can sometimes have the law on their side, too. It is well possible the man has mental problems, and the consulate is rightly assisting a citizen in need of help.

Apart from anything I have yet to meet the first farang that got his deposit back after termination of a rental agreement, so I am quite enjoying this spat....

Bullie, I got my deposit back. All 40,000 baht. It was spotless when I moved out which was the only thing the gracious landlord asked.

And I know quite a few others who have as well.

Fairly obvious whoever it is , she is talking utter nonsense.

not only she has no idea what British embassy told him as it was a discussion in private but the further nonsense about “ international relations”

How about following the law and going to court to seek eviction order?

no doubt he paid deposit , so technically speaking he has paid even though he may or may not have paid rent up to date.

That doesnt answer my question though .

Drink driving and smuggling drugs and alcohol are a different matter

Greetings,

So far, I had three different Thai Condo owners and I never had a problems getting my deposit back!  As long as the condo is cleaned and we'll kept before I moved out!
