Try getting 100,000b out of a Thai, then try getting 100,000b out of a tourist who's been stuck in a cell for a few days.they will use you like a hostage.ive had a friend from uk done for drink driving and held this way (50,000b) or the threat of court and monkey house for long time.he was a tourist and never knew better so coughed up.ive had the same in Phuket airport.2 bottles of spirits and some viagra I bought in Thailand.do I want monkey house or can we help ourselves to your holiday money.(35,000b)

I do not know about possessing  fake viagra without a prescription but Smuggling and drunk driving are serious crimes got off easy.

Thinking the Brit here may have mental problems the way he is handling the situation is not normal.

She is furious that special consideration if shown to "farangs" who break the rules.

She has claimed that after a British Embassy visit the man was encouraged to stay on "for the sake of international relations".

"Encouraged to stay on" by whom?
Hopefully she can corroborate that statement.

I think there is more to this, we haven't heard his side of the story, the Landlord claims he owes 8k baht, I'm going to assume that he doesn't think so, and there seems to be an issue over receipts - you should always get a receipt when paying a bill - simple as that, why would he create such a fuss, why would he not pay his rent ?

I didnt realize that Burmese are not Foreigners.

Yep, there's always two sides to every story.

I am always super- amused, when some rich Thai, is complaining about being treated "unfairly" and a "farang" actually seems to be right and protected by some kind of law!

"Farang should be treated like animals or property and all Thais should be allowed to take advantage of them! This is our country!"

I hope, she gets fleeced real good!

Sums this racist chick up perfectly, these two lines.

Hope the bloke wrecks the gaff now.

Then he will go to jail and has to pay more, very solid advice.

How would you feel if the roles were reversed ?

What if the property owner was a Felang and the tenant was a Thai ?

Would you still then hope that the Thai non paying tenant fleeces the Ferang ?

Unfortunately, the roles in this country are hardly EVER reversed!

So...strawman- argument!

What She says is true , if a Thai doesnt pay his rent , he would be forced, one way or another to leave the property , this guy is getting special protection because hes a Westerner .

Surely they could sort this issue out , without such a fuss ?

How do you know that? Taking her word at face- value?

How about the claim, he paid the rent and she didn't give him a receipt?

I have been in exactly the same situation at one time and later was running after the deposit I paid for the apartment I rented, for 8 month and then had to "settle" for half of it, because I had no receipt!

Every month, for over a year, I was asking for that receipt and it was always "Oh...forget...give you next time" and so on!

From what I have read , he didnt pay the rent .

He stated that he didnt pay the rent because a receipt wouldnt have been given if he had

I was asking for your opinion HAD the roles been reversed .

I would suggest that you would have a different opinion had the roles been reversed .

There are also a number of Felangs that do rent out their property , so, hardly a "strawman argument"

Yes, that law is for everyone , not just felangs and as far as I'm aware , that law has never been enforced for anyone  , its just a punishment to get people to comply with the law

Why didn't he ask for her bank account to deposit his rent at an ATM? Thais do that.

So what is the punishment for smoking on a beach? I know it's for both farang and Thai but do you really think Thais pay the same penalties as farang.

Nicely worded.i bought the viagra in bkk and was unaware about the two bottles as I've never purchased alcohol in an airport before.i found out after that it was a maximum 4,000b for the extra bottle which I took through customs in a clear plastic bag so I was a sitting duck and not trying to smuggle anything.drink driving and smoking on a beach are both breaking the law.you seem to be going against the grain on what ive said so I take it you believe farang get protection than Thais.

Ignorance of import regulations is unfortunately, no excuse. As for buying Viagra, I would be very careful where I get it, fakes have been floating round since the day it was introduced here.

Well...there comes a day, when we are all new to this country and still believe the myth of the always smiling, always helpful Thai and we might believe all kinds of BS.

And then we learn!

Happened to me on a number of different occasions!

Ok...I there HAD been a number of cases, where the respective "felang" HAD fleeced his Thai- tennants and then WOULD be crying, if in one rare case, he WOULD have been "mistreated", I WOULD not feel differently!

British embassy sent a representative !! Absolute BS womans full of it.

Hells teeth you can be on deaths door and only response from British embassy, not our problem.

Phuket does still have an honorary consul.  So it may be that the honorary consul went, or sent someone. That's very different to the main consulate in Bangkok doing the same thing. It used to happen in Pattaya too, when we still had an honorary consul here.

To me it sounds like she is angry because farang can sometimes have the law on their side, too. It is well possible the man has mental problems, and the consulate is rightly assisting a citizen in need of help.

Apart from anything I have yet to meet the first farang that got his deposit back after termination of a rental agreement, so I am quite enjoying this spat....

I did I did I did...????????????????????. (Obviously, not Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket though!!)

Fair enough on her part, business is business.

But it sounds like this farang has some mental problems, and while he's losing his wig up on the 9th floor, she's still whinging about money.   Welcome to the landlord business, lady.

Speaking of losing wigs, landlord's Facebooking, Burmese loving daughter sounds like a real piece of work.

Another case of "he said, she said".

I can't believe this is news - or even that they went online to make such a drama out of it.

If what the landlord says is true, I'm sure there are legal ways to get him out.

Where would we be without FB to vent our petty grievances?
