It's not a myth.

Right, and maybe ask her if she registered him as a foreigner in her property at the immigration office (TM30)... I bet not!

There is no excuse of not doing that TM30 himself, time for him to go to the Philippines or Panama. 😀

Perhaps she (the landlord) didn't want to produce her ID card, blue book etc to the Immi office for tax reasons. If so, it would be impossible for the farang to do the TM30.

Apart from anything I have yet to meet the first farang that got his deposit back after termination of a rental agreement, so I am quite enjoying this spat....

Here! Think I have received a total of 200k+ THB or so back over the several years living here. Never had any issue. Quite contrary, all my landlords were very pleasant people, sometimes generously ignored minor damages or things missing that I was willing to pay for. One landlord showed up with a gift for my mom when she found out that I left because my Mo was seriously sick.

“....Thinking the Brit here may have mental problems the way he is handling the situation is not normal.”

I think you may be right. The OP includes the comment: “The latest events in the drama follow a more than two week standoff after Australian born Brit, David Maclean 50, barricaded himself into his 9th floor room at Supalai Park.“

An “Australian born Brit”? Never met one of them before. What Aussie in his right mind would choose to become “a Pommie B’stard?” He could never go back to Oz. Talk about burning your bridges.

Presumably, he paid a deposit at the start of the contract. If so, can landlord show the receipt, if only to prove that she and her family do indeed give out receipts?

Thai people break the rules on a daily basis. For example on the roads driving vehicle or motorcycle. Then their is the discrimination against foreigners as we need to pay more fore entering public places sometimes 10 times as much. So shut up you stupid woman. The guy said he gave the money to your son's. If they can't hand it over more fool you

Try getting 100,000b out of a Thai, then try getting 100,000b out of a tourist who's been stuck in a cell for a few days.they will use you like a hostage.ive had a friend from uk done for drink driving and held this way (50,000b) or the threat of court and monkey house for long time.he was a tourist and never knew better so coughed up.ive had the same in Phuket airport.2 bottles of spirits and some viagra I bought in Thailand.do I want monkey house or can we help ourselves to your holiday money.(35,000b)

Your UK friend lost my sympathy when I read drink driving. 50.000 baht might teach him a lesson not to, but a while in Jail would be better. He could have hit and kill innocent pedestrians.

It is impossible to "accidently" drink and drive. It's a crime commited willingly with no regards for safety of others.

That sounds pretty much like my ex and her daughter. I stayed, she had to take the exit.

To me it sounds like she is angry because farang can sometimes have the law on their side, too. It is well possible the man has mental problems, and the consulate is rightly assisting a citizen in need of help.

We didn't expect to get the deposit back as we left a month early. Surprise, we did get it back. Seems I'm a 1st for you.

I think he decided to become a Brit after meeting racist Aussies like you.

A yoghurt has more culture than an Aussie
