johnmell
Hi, Has anybody noticed any changes in the Sukhumvit area bars, in light of this new law coming into effect. It was on about a 5 metre no smoking ban near entrances and exits.

camble
No reason to smoke when you can breathe the toxic air
allanos
At the end of the day, it will come down to how good (or bad, depending on whether you are a smoker or not), the enforcement of the law is.
Bangkok Barry
Whether something is illegal or not has absolutely no relevance in Thailand.

For example how legal are all the street bars along Sukhumvit, do you think?
smokie36
There is no change at all however the general trend is towards separation of smoking and non smoking areas....which even as a smoker I can only see as a positive move.
mike324
Did they actually pass the law yet? I know it says it will be official on February 3 last year. I wasn't reading the news the past few days, can't find any info online too, don't know if its official yet or not.

elgenon
I remember last year Big Dogs banned smoking in the bar. You had to stand in the Nana entrance path to smoke. Lasted a few days.
Tomtomtom69
Speaking of bars and nightclubs and excuse my ignorance on this matter as I haven't been to any nightclubs or bars in Thailand for some years now is it true that because alcohol can't be served after midnight, nightclubs, previously allowed to stay open until 2am can now only remain open until midnight? If so, nightlife in Thailand has just been killed off. In Siem Reap, nightclubs stay open until like 4am. Thailand stopped being cool, if what I suspect to be true is confirmed. I think even in Singapore you can buy alcohol and go clubbing after midnight.

Singapore you can't buy alcohol in a shop after 10.30pm. Nightclubs open late though.
