(Reuters) - A federal judge has granted adult film actress Stormy Daniels' request to dismiss a defamation claim against U.S. President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen, while letting her pursue her lawsuit against Trump and Cohen to end a hush money settlement.

In a decision made public on Tuesday, U.S. District Judge James Otero in Los Angeles said federal rules permitted Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, to amend her lawsuit, and there was "nothing wrong" with her request to drop the defamation claim.

He said not granting that request could even prejudice Cohen by potentially forcing Trump's self-proclaimed former fixer "to continue to litigate a meritless defamation claim."

Otero dismissed the defamation claim with prejudice, meaning Daniels cannot bring it again. He did not rule on the rest of her case. The judge had previously dismissed Daniels' separate defamation case against Trump.

Lawyers for Daniels and Cohen welcomed the latest decision.

Brent Blakely, a lawyer for Cohen, called the decision "a clear win" for his client.

Michael Avenatti, a lawyer for Daniels, said: "We asked that the minor defamation claim be dismissed and it was because the court sided with us and against Cohen." Avenatti later tweeted: "We did not lose anything."

Trump's lawyer, Charles Harder, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The decision relates to the lawsuit that Daniels, 39, filed last March to rescind a nondisclosure agreement that kept her from discussing her alleged 2006 sexual relationship with Trump in the final weeks before the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Cohen has said the agreement, under which Daniels was paid $130,000, was struck to help Trump capture the White House.

Trump has denied having had sex with Daniels.

The nondisclosure agreement has not prevented Daniels from speaking to news media, including CBS' "60 Minutes," or releasing a memoir, "Full Disclosure."

Cohen was sentenced on Dec. 12 to three years in prison after pleading guilty to campaign finance violations, including payments to Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who also claimed an affair with Trump.

Trump has denied McDougal's claim.

The case is Clifford v Trump et al, U.S. District Court, Central District of California, No. 18-02217.

Got any evidence to show that Trump paid her for sex?

No.

I do not know what happened between them.

My point was porn actors get paid for sexual acts, extremely similar to the corner prostitute.

Labeling this slapper as a 'star' and the idea she would not do less than scrupulous acts for money is comical.

I wouldn't trust her blindly, neither would I trust a practicing or ex prostitute.

So now she's "similar to the corner prostitute". (As opposed to some other kind of prostitute? Apparently, you're a snob too)

So, in other words you've got nothing.

So you would not trust her you would trust a married man who had sex with her repeatedly?

Uh oh, looks like another of those "end of Trump" scenarios just came to a shuddering end. 55555555555555555

Never mind, there's be another one along real soon for the Trump haters to trumpet as being the "end of Trump".

Yep, because everything he touches seems to turn out to be a sham.

Trump university, Trump casino, Trump charity, Trump campaign, Trump inauguration org, ... . The list is very long.

Yes the list is long and grows longer by the day. Common factor- all came to naught.

Considering you've partaken in topics detailing otherwise, bizarre even by your standards.

????

Considering Trump is still president and looks like being so at least till 2020, all came to naught.

Something will actually count when he is forced to resign or is indicted.

Considering the original post you replied to dealt with many things associated with Trump being a sham ("Trump university, Trump casino, Trump charity, Trump campaign, Trump inauguration org...."), your current deflection is about as relevant as the rest of your efforts.

For most Presidents completing their first term is a certainty, you seem to have some doubts this one will, or at least if he does it’s some kind of special achievement.
