Daily News reported on a case of alleged rape committed by an 89 year old man on an 84 year old woman in Buriram.

Three months after the incident the woman died from a blood infection.

The police let the man go after he denied it. They said that he was old, according to the daughter.

Now the family want action and the local prosecutor says there is a case to answer.

Those involved were named only as A, the man,  and  B the woman.

B's daughter said that she lived next door to her mum and went to see and help her every day at 10am. On November 2nd last year she was shocked to find A on top of her.

He fled and the daughter took her mother to Nang Rong hospital. Doctors said that her vagina had been penetrated with something hard that was not sharp. She had been raped.

After the incident the old lady developed a fever and her daughter said that she constantly looked towards the door with tears in her eyes.

She eventually died from a blood infection on February 4th. The family believe the rape led to her death.

"A" denied rape after the daughter went to police. They let him go on account of him being old, she said.

But the family pressed the matter and now Nang Rong district prosecutor Sakda Khlairomsai said that witness statements and evidence gathering was almost complete.

And there are grounds to prosecute A for the crime.

What charge he might face has not been mentioned yet.

Unbelievable! What about the rape charge and aggravated assault leading to death, for starters. Totally agree with Colin, age shouldn't come into it at all!

So been old is an excuse to get away with a crime here .

I'd like to know at what age we become immune from prosecution in Thailand?

Or does that only apply to Thai's

89 year old man, alleged to have committed rape is allowed to go free, with no consideration to the victim!

But a 90 year old retiree foreigner is guilty of not meeting a financial figure, has committed no actual crime but will be deported !!

Nice country Thailand is becoming !
