webfact
Elizabeth Warren called herself 'American Indian' on ID card: report By Dan Whitcomb U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) arrives to attend U.S. President Donald Trump's second State of the Union address to a joint session of the U.S. Congress in the House Chamber of the U.S. Capitol on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S. February 5, 2019. REUTERS/Joshua Roberts (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic presidential contender Elizabeth Warren identified herself as an "American Indian" in hand-writing on her 1986 registration card for the State Bar of Texas, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday. The disclosure marks the latest twist in a controversy surrounding Warren and her claims to Native American ancestry as she raises money and hires staff ahead of an expected formal launch to her 2020 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. The yellow registration card, which is dated April 1986, was filled out in blue ink and signed by Warren, the Post reported. A photograph of the card posted online by the newspaper shows that Warren listed the university and law school she attended. On a line listed for race Warren wrote "American Indian." The Post reported that Warren apologised during an interview for identifying herself as a Native American. The paper said her office did not dispute the card's authenticity. Reuters reporters have not inspected the card in person. She could not be reached for comment. Warren angered tribal leaders and some of her fellow Democrats when she announced she had taken a DNA test to put to rest criticism from Republicans, and especially President Donald Trump, of her ancestry claims. The results found Warren had at least one Native American ancestor many generations ago. However, Native American leaders criticized Warren for using a DNA test to lay claim to even a vague connection to a tribal nation, saying culture and sovereignty were just as important as blood and the tests did not confer the rights of tribal citizenship. Democrats feared Warren was playing into the hands of Trump and other Republicans by engaging them on the issue. The Cherokee Nation said last week Warren had apologised for taking the test and reaffirmed she was not a citizen of any tribal nation. Warren has created an exploratory committee to begin raising money and hiring staff for a run at the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020. She is expected to formally launch her campaign on Saturday. Jingthing
Just quit. She's too ridiculous. The democrats have a wealth of great options. We don't need her baggage. Jingthing
I don't have much against her personally. I'm sure her senate seat is safe. But the most important thing is to beat "trump" and she's just too easy for him to brand down. Self inflicted wounds on her part before she was a politician. Maybe not fair but life and politics is not fair in general. Sent from my Lenovo A7020a48 using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
alex8912
She’s toast ( as I predicted on TVF last summer but got flack from some big time posters lol) Now ex Governor Weld from Massachusetts is mentioning a run. Why can’t Massachusetts politicians ever stay OUT of the run for Pres. Maybe we need a wall there. Now if Tom Brady made a run that would be a different story. Go Pats! That's a theory but I think there is still some controversy about it. Of course saying Indian is very passe. guest879
well I hate to say it but she must be one of the better candidates, mostly due to the poor quality of the other candidates. then there is the starbucks guy who will split the vote. warren really screwed it up with this American Indian lie, and it was a lie. the left eat their own over less. it is a sad state of affairs where whites are ashamed to be white or lie about it for their own gain. Jingthing
I'll agree she was in the top tier due to her combative style (for those that think an aggressive fighter is what we need now) but really mostly about name recognition. I hear my favorite Amy Klobuchar will soon announce that she is running with what sounds like a kind of copy cat rally of Harris, this time in Minneapolis. Klobuchar's lane is a bit more moderate, midwestern, and for people that think "Make American More Normal and Less Hateful Again" is the thing we need. She isn't considered a top tier candidate at this time, but why exactly? Low polling due to name recognition. It's so early that name recognition is something that can be overcome. But I'm not making any predictions. Harris will probably remain top tier till the end whether she gets nominated or not and anyone that does get nominated is definitely going to "steal" her excellent "We're Better Than This" slogan. Chomper Higgot
Warren has clearly wound the Illiberals up. Is it her claims to Native American ancestry or her platform of socialist reforms? Illiberals should hope the former, the latter is now firmly embedded in the political discourse.

Excellent insight, completely free of "confusion". NOW do you see why Trump is one of Lenin's "useful idiots" whose ramblings will at the very least put "socialism" on the agenda for serious discussion. Alas, all those Dems who have "declared" so far are totally unqualified to talk about socialism. But it's a start.....

To a person they do not like the term. They seem to prefer American Indian or indigenous person/people. Ironically, they seem to understand that anyone born in America is a native American while people who would speak on their behalf do not.
bendejo
Ok Liz, time for you to do what Joe Biden did in the 1988 campaign, and if you do it quietly enough you'll be able to keep your Senate seat. And Joe, fade away, your day has past, and if you're still in the running every day from now until November 3, 2020 DT (who's inaugural was poorly attended) is going to mention it.
