USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) has arrived in the Gulf of Thailand and is expected to dock at Laem Chabang about Feb. 10-11, 2019. Ship's company is 3,532 crew and its air wing is 2,480. About 4,000 personnel plan to visit Pattaya. I hope there are enough bar girls and beer available to entertain everyone.

Really enjoyed when fleet anchored off Pattaya. Toured the New Jersey and as I showed my Air Force ID card (Captain) the seaman asked if I wanted to be piped on board. I told him to look closer to the ID card. Told him if he tried to Pipe me on, both of us would be in the drink. This was before the Pattaya Mayor decided to charge 500 Baht per head and since then the Fleet docks with Thai navy. Smart move Mr. Mayor.

I worked in information technology at a large American university. My boss had been a fighter pilot, then carrier captain. Because of my experience in Thailand, he liked to tell the story of the time his carrier group docked in Phuket. They had two big pans from the mess full of condoms labeled large and regular. The large emptied fast and nobody took the regular size. They were, of course, all the same condoms!

Believe me that all girls in pattaya and around know they are comming so don't worry about the nr of girls that will be there .

A nice break for them from telling the usual penurious geriatrics that they're "sexy man."

I only hope the sailors have been warned that some of the most attractive "girls" may not be all they appear to be.

Having served 20 years in the US Army, we were well aware that some men were not men at all, but worthy of inspection at arms reach. LOL.

As much as I sometimes think these large ships antiquated and wasteful I will say it is an impressive vessel.

She only cost USD$4.5B to build - a bargain - a massive 4.5 acres in area, 7th Nimitz class carrier built, capable of carrying 70 tactical aircraft. Stands 244 feet tall from keel to mast, that's like a 24 story building.

John C. Stennis's has two nuclear reactors that give her virtually unlimited range and endurance and a top speed in excess of 30 knots (56 km/h, 34.5 mph), 4 shafts with 260,000 shp (194 MW) . The ship's four catapults and four arresting gear engines enable her to launch and recover aircraft rapidly and simultaneously. The ship carries approximately 3 million US gallons (11,000 m3) of fuel for her aircraft and escorts, and enough weapons and stores for extended operations without replenishment. John C. Stennis also has extensive repair capabilities, including a fully equipped Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, a micro-miniature electronics repair shop, and numerous ship repair shops.

For defense, in addition to her air wing and accompanying vessels, John C. Stennis has NATO RIM-7 Sea Sparrow and Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) surface-to-air missile systems, the Phalanx Close-in Weapons System for cruise missile defense, and the AN/SLQ-32 Electronic Warfare System.

Here are some of the strong handsome men for the ladies. Oh, there are some ladies in the crew that may need some entertainment too.

I was on The U.S.S. Midway (CV-41), now a museum in San Diego, way back in the early 80s as a youth.  It was my first trip to Thailand and was a precursor for my many trips since.  It was a small sleepy town back then.

I envy there first experience in the Land of Smiles.

Was gonna say as aready mentioned, there will be the strike/support group ships too so even more $$$ to fill the bar tills and girls pockets ????

Some USN sailors once helped myself and a friend of a potential pickle when we were in the Bahama's some years ago; great to see those who serve getting to enjoy some well earned R&R ????

I was in the Navy too many rules for port calls. Lots of "restricted zones" they tell you not to go to.

No going to the islands and no two wheel transportation. Some can't stay out over night and need a "liberty buddy" so they can't go out alone.

Yeah it is better than being on the ship but still kinda a "tease" because it would be much cooler to have freedom to go where you want.

If you are one of the lucky ones to be able to stay overnight you have to tell you CO where your hotel is and the phone number.

A lot of wives meet the Navy husbands in Thailand because they don't trust them in a place like Pattaya.

Some of the Strike Group 3 escort ships and submarine sailors are here already. They are buying up all the Krispy Kreme donuts at Royal Garden mall.

Most bars don't sell Budweiser beer, they'll have to go to 7/11 to get the "Bud".
