Strange issue with legs

About 6 months ago I started getting a sensation that my feet were staying really quite hot. This sensation has spread and now my entire lower legs from just under the knees are affected and feel like they are burning up, especially the lower shinstoo feet portion. If i sit in a room with the airconditioner blasting my upper legs (above the knees) feel cold to the touch, whilst my lower legs actually still feel hot to touch, so this isnt just a feeling but is a physical thing occuring. My wife can feel the difference in heat between regions.

The sensation is spreading and I am now getting hot patches on my fore arms, shoulders and upper back too, though not as severe as my legs yet.

I cant sleep because of the uncomfortable feeling  and am suffering severe insomnia from the leg feelings. I am lucky to sleep 2 or 3 hours a day and normally I have to sleep on the couch now due to the leg restlessness ( I have had RLS for years) and the fact that my lower legs feel like they are being slow cooked.

I still run for fitness and general health and whilst I am still running most days my performance has dropped significantly as the legs now feel both hot and much weaker than 6 months ago, so running is no pleasure at all.  I was doing 10- 12 km runs during a run session a year ago and I am now struggling to do 6 or 7 km at a time. My legs feel hot and fatigued before I even commence my run.

Could this be viral or something? I need to see a doctor obviously but would like to know if anyone recognises these symptoms. I also would like some advise as to what type of specialist it would be best to see.

I dont smoke and rarely drink (few occassions a year) and run about 5 times a week and also cycle in the gym a few times a week.

Thanks for any help with this.
