RIP Gordon.

81 isn't a bad innings (sorry, watching England Windes cricket).

Pélé never understood how he failed to score.

Just another action shot of the greatest keeper England has known.

 From Gordon Banks memories :

“As I got to my feet,” Banks later recalled, “Pelé came up to me and patted me on the back. ‘I thought that was a goal,’ he said. ‘You and me both,’ I replied. The TV footage of the game shows me laughing as I turn to take up my position for the corner. I was laughing at what Bobby Moore had just said to me. ‘You’re getting too old Banksy, you used to hold on to them.’ Like hell I did.”

For those not familiar with Gordon Banks, consider:

He was named Fifa's 'Goalkeeper Of The Year' for six consecutive years between 1966 and 1971.

He was the Football Writers' Association Footballer Of The Year.

He played for Fort Lauderdale Strikers. They won their division and Banks was named 'Keeper Of The Year'. This was following his car crash accident when he lost sight in his right eye - imagine that, playing with one eye!

RIP!

He was way more than that bloody Pele save that gets played to death. In the 70s, all Division 1 teams had a star you'd want to go see and Banks was his teams'. Brilliant goalie...and can you imagine how much better he could have been with modern training, equipment, food, etc.

Yep ...
