The place is an unplanned mess, a sewer in place of the sea, a rubbish tip for a beach and a traffic nightmare.  It floods in the rainy season, stinks in the dry season and is full of people you would never wish to see, meet or ever socialise with. Dead? here's hoping.

All those things and I love it! If I wanted boring and shiny I would've stayed at home.

In the backpacker crowd the idea of a middle-aged white guy with a young ethnic woman is the epitome of disgusting.

The ones who are most disgusted by it are the Occidental gals with Thai "boyfriends" who freeload off them, hit them up for $$ with sick buffalo stories etc. If you confront one such, you'll be told it's different for them. (sound familiar?)  One gal admitted to me that she once had a beau from Isaan and the only thing he talked about was money.

Also, no shortage of Occidental young couples broken apart because the Thai bargirls stole the guy away.

Will you please explain Occidental?

Demographics have changed, Pattaya is busy but long gone are the days of getting a beer and a bird for a tenner all night.....a real night out with drinks, shots, some thai grub, lady drinks, bar fine and a bit for her costs almost a few hundred quid.

Surely you can get a girl without this barfine system. If I wasn't happily married, I am

sure I could get plenty of girls without paying a barfine.

I have been living in north east Thailand for 12 years and I went to Pattaya 3 years ago for 1 week but went back home after 2 days before a lady boy could rob or kill me. I will never go back to that sh** hole again it is not Thailand it is HELL

Funny that, I have been going to Pattaya regularly for 13 years and never had any problem with any ladyboys, or anyone for that matter.

I lived there for 3 years.  Getting a good seat at a bar to watch you guys who are afraid of lady boys was always a challenge.  We'd tip the lady boys to scare the new guys.  Like a dog they can smell fear.  Good sport.

More likely he is still living with mummy and daddy but enjoys the odd trip to the seaside for a ice cream wearing his favourite anorak and bobble hat

you wouldn't notice the difference mate

There is no street in Pattaya that you can't score on.  None.  Nada. Zip.

Tell me what other town in the world is that also true.

If you are a priest or nun this might not be a good thing but for the rest of us normal males it's fun, fun, fun.

Ah, yes.  Another 'Pattaya is Dead' thread, keeping the tradition alive lo these many years.  Somewhere, JSixpack is smiling.  And, as always, it has brought out all the posters who just can't quit Pattaya, try, try as they might.   From north Thailand somewhere, from Mommie's basement somewhere, from near Rayong somewhere, from places not as fun somewhere, from all sorts of somewheres, we know they secretly want to be here.  But, the poor things are somewhere else and all they can do is read and comment about Pattaya on ThaiVisa--and dream.

This is the Brits worst nightmare after Brexit. That confused and worrying look .

Well, he wants to adopt the Norwegian model of trading with the EU after Brexit, so what is so scary about that?

my 2 baht what the hey... I would consider myself an 'retired old timer' as I don't go to the bars or P4P anymore, and I do remember well 10 and 20yrs ago. back then it was IMO less crowded, more relaxed, more real sanuk, and a bit cheaper too. Mobile phs were an expensive rarity, there were far fewer 'police check points', few Russians/east Europeans, and hell if I remember seeing younger falang couples pushing baby strollers all around town, and most pooying were thinner.

but compared to the ussa both today and back then, patty is insane debauchery, an alcoholics' dream, and exotic (unless perhaps you're wandering one of the malls at noon). until you can out drink, out screw, and out party this town, it's still crazy fun... comparatively speaking.

not dying, but changing.

1.  Good restaurants per square meter?   Pattaya winner.  2.  Less pollution than CM or Bangkok?  Pattaya winner.  3.  Better shopping than Rayong?  Pattaya winner.  4.  More quality hospitals per person?  Pattaya winner.  5.  Best and cheapest and most entertainment per squar meter?  Pattaya wins by a mile.
