webfact
Video: Crazy Thai driving as Fortuner cuts in front of tour bus at Phuket U-turn Picture: Thai Rath CCTV footage posted on a Phuket page showed a Toyota Fortuner cut in front of a tour bus at a U-turn in Kathu. The driver waits for three motorcycles to pass before pulling in front of the bus that swerves and hits a power pole. Power cuts were experienced in a large swathe of the Kathu area yesterday. It took 4 hours for electrical engineers to make repairs. The Fortuner continued on its way feeling the scene. There were no reports of injuries in the Thai Rath story. BritManToo
Crazy bus driver too, Why would you swerve a bus into a power pole when the car would have been much softer, and wouldn't have been able to run away?
SammyT
I love it how the Fortuner just drives away as if nothing has happened.
neeray
Driver of Fortuner must have had something to hide. The front left took a pretty good hit. My view says the tour bus was going at a pretty good clip.

Being a complete <deleted> of a driver seems a prerequisite to getting a licence to drive a minivan
Old Croc
My opinion is that the bus driver did extremely well to slow so dramatically in a relatively short distance, and only lightly tap the lamp post. I don't believe he was speeding above limits or he couldn't have stopped that quickly That lunatic car driver (and his pax if any) should have joined the 60+ people who die on Thai roads everyday. They should be thanking the bus driver for his skill.
MaxLee
Someone has to make a clip of all the accident clips and publish it world wide, and see what it would do to Thailand's public image.....

richard_smith237
How do you not see a bus???? .... What more can be said about this,? Stupidity in the extreme... Thr bus driver did well. Happy Grumpy
They do struggle with how to use u-turns..... Maybe if they learned that they're not piloting a buffaloes anymore, and motorized vehicles are a little bit different.

They are not taught to drive and therefore are not taught that it is bad to swerve and they should brake straight. See it every day on Thai roads and so many times when they swerve they end up killing or injuring innocent people that should not be involved in the accident. from the home of CC
Thai drivers rather than following 'right of way' rules tend to count on others yielding to them. Trouble is everyone has to be on the same page for this to work, when in reality every one has a different book.

spidermike007
When I was growing up, we took drivers education classes. They showed us these horrendous films, of semi trucks crashing into cars, and literally obliterating them, and everything inside. Also, they showed very graphic images of head on collisions. Even as a young kid, it left a lasting impression, and I realized driving was no joking matter. Especially when you have your friends, or loved ones in the car with you. I am constantly astonished at the kinds of chances people take here, with their entire family in the car with them. Why? What is the logic? What is the reason? Why take those risks? Often, when someone cuts onto the highway in front of me, as I am doing 100kpm or more on the highway, I look in my rearview mirror, and there is nobody behind me for quite some distance. Which means, had they paused, and waited 2 or 3 seconds, there would have been zero risk to them, their family, or me and my family. What can one even say? All of this matters even more when driving a motorbike, where there is no protection. The only way to survive here on the road, is to be patient, have eyes in the back of your head, drive with caution, and always, and I mean always watch out of the other guy. Chances are, he does not have much driving skill, nor patience, nor reason, nor common sense. You cannot be too careful on the road here. Especially considering that the toy police offer no traffic safety, nor enforcement of the law.

Do they have the number plate and the identity of the driver? Has he/she/heshe been arrested yet? And if not, do they know it was a Thai driving? And no, I haven't got the rose tinted specs on, just curious with the headline.

Pilotman
I am struggling to see how this is out of the ordinary. I see something stupid and explainable, every day that I drive on Thai roads. Let's face it, the vast majority just cannot drive.

Ulic
I am impressed he waited for the scooters to pass. Most SUV/busses pull straight out in front of scooters. They stop or it is their loss seems to be the attitude.
