In general, confiscated funds go to the general treasury.   It takes legislation to specifically designate funds to a cause.   I believe there is a bill being considered to direct El Chappo's ceased assets to go toward the wall.   It remains to be seen whether it will gain any traction.

It needs to be remember that the vast majority of his wealth and property is in Mexico and well outside the reach of the US government.   Any property he has in Mexico will go to the Mexican government.

Ted Cruz proposed this idea, if only to prove how stoopid he is.

The sheer irony and idiocy of using a drug dealers ill-gotten booty, gained smuggling drugs oh so effectively through legal ports of entry, to build a wall to stop drugs is, well, a new milestone for this administration.

Not so fast there has been talk of using El Chapo seized drug money (14 billion) to pay for it.  Trump has played Pelosi once again - she is senile and needs to be replaced along with Biden and the whole lot of old folks home politicians hanging around and filling their corrupt pockets.

Talking of senile , that rose garden address was a corker , you think he is playing the crazy card early in anticipation of a long jail sentence ?

Obviously you are right. But what do you think would happen if he would be impeached and if he would lose his job?

Would the American voters learn from this and next time vote for someone who is not similar to Trump?

I have my doubts.

Trump is a popularist , they always get found out and afterwards the electorate steers well clear of them for a good while. Its a universal trait , people like the idea of quick fixes but once burned they dont forget.

Well not one more dollar for an immorality cried the opposition.

if the offer of 1.6 billion was chucked out, before 1.3 was accepted, then the dems did more than just restrict the bill to “not one more dollar”, they actually clawed back millions of dollars.

Finally. I have long been waiting for this announcement. This is now the most important issue for Trump. His base needs the wall, and the haters also need it for their and their future children's safety, security and preservation of the American state - even if they don't understand that. To put the 8 billion requested into perspective just consider how much the US government hands out yearly in "aid" freebies across the world to countries that hate us. Never has a POTUS achieved so much in any time frame. That 45 has crammed achievement after achievement in just 2 years is nothing short of miraculous. Go the wall!

WOW, you actually have not a single clue about the subject do you !!. By the way didn't you cheer when he promised that Mexico would pay for the 'wall/fence/slatted structure' ?? I guess as an election promise it sounds better than "Build the wall, with tax payers money"

At one point in time he was offered 25 billion in exchange for permanent status for the DCCA's and a path to citizenship. His bosom buddy, Stephen Miller, turned it down and here we are. If he had accepted it he would have his wall and the fact that he gave in on the DACAs would be history.  He truly fills the bill as recently commented by his mentor Ann Coulter: "Forget the fact that he’s digging his own grave," Coulter said. "The only national emergency is that our president is an idiot." She says it all and she is on his team!

After having declared a National Emergency at our southern border (Invasion!) I'm certain the president will hunker down in the White House Situation Room marshaling the full power of his government to bear on this crisis.

Just kidding.

He's off to Mar-a-Lago for a weekend of "Executive Time", FORE!

I'm sure the mostly immigrant staff (legal-ish H1B visas for the most part - stealing jobs from Americans) won't spit on his burger.

Trump plans to jet to Mar-a-Lago for a golf getaway after declaring his "national emergency": report

President Donald Trump is moving forward with a plan to declare a national emergency, diverting money from the military to construct a wall at the southern border with no input from Congress.

But even he himself doesn’t seem to be taking the idea that there is a real emergency at the border seriously — as evidenced by the fact that immediately after his declaration, he plans to jet to Florida for a vacation at his Mar-a-Lago golf club:

Regardless of what one thinks about the Wall, it can't be denied that he has sure tried to fulfill his problem.

I'd be much happier if the energy put into this was directed at something like getting the health care system working for everyone.

None of these things are presidential issues; they are congressional issues.  Congress should be working on border security, immigration reform, improvements to health care, etc.  The reason congress isn't doing as much as it should is because it's spending too much time keeping the executive branch from going off the rails.

A president should be more focused on foreign affairs and international issues.  And vacationing less.

There should be wall built indeed. Around Trump. At least 3 feet tall so he can't climb over it. With gaps to allow McDonald's and KFC to pass through... for humanitarian reasons.

If only there were some nursery rhyme about a wall which rhymes with Trump?

Hmmm.

At least we're on the short-side of a one-term presidency.

Actually there is a nursery rime that fits Trump.  Just replace Hump with Trump in the English nursery rime Humpty Dumpty!  Fits him to a tee wall and all!

Has Coulter and her followers turned against Trump?

Not particularly. Coulter actually really wants a wall and every other tool in the box to reverse the current  demographic trend and delay the day whites become a minority in the U.S. (by 2054 currently).

Trump, on the other hand, wants simply to prolong the fight over the wall for as long as possible. If it is actually built, he loses his raison d'etre and loses his angry base.

Coulter is simply impatient Trump has not gone completely Jim Crow along with a whites only immigration policy.

In summary, she is not challenging him, just simply trying to influence policy.

Amazing what a president has to go through to implement a piece of infrastructure for the good of all Americans.

At least he does what he promised to do.

Why doesn’t Mexico pay like he said?  Why is he taking money from the military?  It’s no emergency ???? Wait in until a liberal president uses these new powers ????

I agree. And not only is it bigotry and reprehensible, it's not even the corrected bigoted word for residents of West Virgina. That would be h*llb*llies. And it stinks to use it.
