Saichon Srisawat, 50, left with the clothes but when she didn't come back for dinner her husband Niphon Yimlamai, 71, was concerned. A search party was formed and next day his wife was found. Nong Plap police discovered her naked in undergrowth by the side of the road near her mother's house in the Huay Sat Yai sub-district of Hua Hin that is within the Kaeng Krachan national park. She had been trampled to death by at least two elephants. Her arms and legs were all broken and her skull was fractured. There were elephant footprints all around. She had been dead about a day. I'm not saying it isn't possibly BS as you state, but elephants are very smart creatures and learn from interaction with humans; to the extent that they have reactions to smell, gender, clothes, language and other factors. Elephants mistreated by someone wearing the same colour clothes as the poor victim may react aggressively to the woman's clothing and take action. There appears to be some truth in elephants never forget; it appears they also hold grudges. When culling a herd of elephants (horrible but it is done to protect habitats and vegetation) it is essential that every single one is culled and none escape. Yes, you are correct, it would be in a developed nation. Here police investigations are "led by the desired outcome" rather than "evidence-led" so if the cops say it was elephants, it was elephants.
