Because one is recent history and generated an organization that still exists and wages war and the other cannot be sensibly indicted for the violent Islamism of today.

Islamist were always violent, Mohamed himself went through villages concurring , raping and killing anyone who did not follow him and in case you are still confused , all the killings and brutality is in the name of Allah and has little to do with Afghanistan or Russian
