According to an opinion poll released today by Rangsit University, the pro-junta Palang Pracharat party will win the March 24 election with an estimated 8.3 million votes, or 21.5 percent of votes cast. The other parties polled as follows:

Dr. Sungsit Piriyarangsan, dean of the Social Innovations College at Rangsit University, said that they surveyed 8,000 people in 350 electoral constituencies on February 11th and that the survey was based on the assumption that 75 percent of the 38.6 million eligible voters would cast the ballots.

He added that parties which do not field candidates in all the 350 constituencies will be at a disadvantage in terms of vote calculation and in the number of party-list MP seats compared to those which contest all constituencies.

What complete and utter crap.

"...they surveyed 8,000 people in 350 electoral constituencies on February 11th..."

Really, they surveyed 8,000 people on ONE day? One day? In 350 separate constituencies? Crap.

"...The survey also indicates that the next government will be a coalition government, with the Palang Prachart and Democrat parties forming the core of a new government, with the possible participation of Bhumjai Thai, Ruam Palang Prachachart, Chart Thai Pattana and Chart Pattana parties which altogether will command more than 300 votes in the House of Representatives..."

Really? You know how the post-election period is going to occur?

BS. Pure BS. Pure, unmitigated BS.

Thai PBS World and the Nation have shot what little credibility they had by publishing this blatant falsehood.

This has gotten too embarrassing for words...

Without posing any opinion as to the leanings of the said Dr.  Surely that would depend on how many people carried out the survey?

If true, the country will only get worse.  A giant wet blanket will be where Thailand use to be.

Really?

The decline under T. was enormous, the last five years were remarkable in their recovery of the country.

I am not a fan of military takeovers, not at all, but seen the state of the country, politically seen, under the last, hopefully, T government, it might have been necessary.

About the poll, well, it is quite easy to ask 8000 people what party would get their vote, by phone for example, and with students doing the calling it can easily be done in a day, from early morning till evening.

Yes indeed.

But it's up to the Thai people. They are not unduly troubled by any of it (the vast majority of them).

So foot down on that pedal - and zoom back joyfully into the pre-Middle Ages - here we come!

Let us hope. This fabulously incompetent regime should be denied a democratic victory, by all means possible. After five years they have amply demonstrated they are in way over their heads. Common sense must prevail, and an alternative party must be chosen, in order for the nation to move forward. The army needs to be put out to pasture, and told that they are not wanted, not needed, not popular, and despised by most.

Well it is entirely possible that he knows both the numbers of the result, and the parliamentary arrangement which will emerge from those numbers to form the government. After all, they were probably drafted months ago, and he may be well enough connected to have seen, or been briefed on them...

Do you have any proof of your assertion that the Dean and a renowned university are lying?

Or just more hot air because you don't like the result?

Ask someone to read the article for you. Then explain about where the poll was carried out.

I don’t know but after 3 consecutive elections with his party winning all convincingly, even the unbelievers would start to question heaven. Don’t you?

I'm encouraged to hear that the results of the election will bear any relationship to how the electorate actually voted!

with a gold  watch??

Where are they going to find 1,700-odd watches for all those generals?

Even Prawit could possibly be strapped to help out with that one.

Posters, don't forget the President (and founder if I remember right) of Rangsit University,  Dr Arthit Ourairat, was a a well known passionate supporter of Suthep at the time of Bangkok Shutdown.

Currently he has transferred his support to Prayuth so the results of this poll are really no surprise.
