Which place is better to live in,Chiangmai or Khon Kaen??

I live in BKK although Ive visited both places and Chiang Mai is much more touristy and geared up for foreigners. I also enjoy the surrounding area of Chiang Mai with a cooler climate.

Khon Kaen is a developing city, Thainess at its core maybe!

It depends on your own personal wants and needs.

KK is much more central, easier access to Udon / Nong Khai / Korat / Loei to mention a few.

CM is a bit isolated but very good if you're into touring on motorbikes or push bikes.

Which city is more ‘accessible’ for someone who just walk around or take the bus?

I don’t like motorcycles!!

Haven't been to KK, but CM I found great for walking - within 1 mile or so I had most businesses I was interested in, and I used Grab occasionally for longer trips.

Those were my only means of transport there for 5 weeks (plus a friend's vehicle when we would get together).

If that's really important to you, then neither.  BKK wins hands down.

People in Chiang Mai think that it's a wonderful city and that they are wonderful people because they live in Chiang Mai.

Nobody thinks like this in Khonkaen.

Mr Faber and Mr Cummings reside in Chiang Mai. I only go there if I must.

Khonkaen is nice and boring, i like it that way.

I think you will find at least one person not agreeing the wonderful bit of Chiang Mai????

Chiang Mai, has a cold season kinda sort of, has an Airport with a lot of foreign flight options, has mountains to look at most of the time and you
ride your mountain bike up and down great trails, a better nightlife, lots more restaurant choices, better choices for accomodations. I could go on and on but enough. CHIANG MAI rocks.

KK has an airport, too,  but it's smaller than the one in CM

CM has the worst hospitals of any major city in Thailand. KK has good hospitals.

Not sure KK has an airport? Obviously you don't know too much about KK and perhaps shouldn't be advising others on its livability. Population over 100,000, of course it has an airport. Sheesh!

Bkk / KK hospital is also very good.

There’s also an amazing Triumph motorbike showroom as well as Ducati and HD.

HOBS has has an amazing selection of beers albeit very expensive.

Give the horrid pollution in these cities as well as Bangkok and Pattaya you would be wide to pick a destination with non lethal air.

I don't think what has been posted so far is strong enough. Be aware the air in both places is unhealthy for roughly half the year. You'll both see, feel, and read about the bad air. Often it's a little worse than world health organization standards and sometimes it's downright hazardous even on thailand's watered down scale. If you want to spend time outdoors and have open windows, stay clear of the north of Thailand if your health is important. Otherwise button up the house, buy a good air purifier, wear a mask when outside, and avoid exercise. If you don't believe this then make a trip to right now. The air quality is downright awful and will get worse in the coming months. Bangkok air is way better. Sad, but true.

I’m not sure if KK is considered northern Thailand, not Central?

The air quality in central Thailand, while not pristine is certainly not as bad as n Thailand.
