Yes, I agree that is good, but I think that history of being a conscientious objector is legitimate to look at from a critical POV. Being a C.O. generally implies being against killing in wars, even "just" or necessary wars. A commander in chief with that history? I'm not sure and I think he can be destroyed by that added to the red baiting in the general. I say reject him. Sorry. All the choices have warts but there are levels. I want to see "trump" and his movement CRUSHED in a historically massive landslide. A slim win isn't good enough. He would call that illegitimate and refuse to leave.

So he hates himself? He managed to raise record amounts of money record time. Bernie is a force to be reckoned with. There is a lot of hatred and Bernie is into the hate game now it seems. More importantly for Bernie to get the nomination that much of that hatred and resentment is directed towards the dems from last time. 

 

I think the chance that Schultz is a good contender just went up. I don't say this for all of the cynical reasons people will accuse me of. I think that just about anybody the left can do the carbon tax, classist, indentity politics as well or better than Bernie. However Schultz is beginning to look like the mirage in the desert. 

 

So if Bernie doesn't get the nomination I think Schultz could take some of Bernies refugees from the party as well as maybe snatch some Trump votes.

 

The only man on the inside of the party that can beat Trump is clearly Biden and that isn't so clear if Schultz runs. I hope Schultz wins that would be a good compromise for a lot of nonsense from either side of the aisle.

I want everyone possible to unite to support whatever democrat is nominated. Not just democrats, but independents and traditional republicans as well. 

However, something has come up about Bernie that really rubs me the wrong way, so I hope he isn't nominated.

He is way too soft on left wing authoritarians. Like Maduro.

Socialism in any form tends to be authoritarian. The problem with much of what the left proposes is it forces people that don't agree to make substantial changes to their personal lives. The right much less so.

 

So if the dems win they will dictate how businesses can run, decide who can drive a car, decide who can take an airplane, come redesign your house, decide what kind of house you can build etc.

 

I remember back when I was young and liberal hearing Republicans say "don't force your lifestyle on me" and laughing. I am afraid these days that saying might become true.

I have lived abroad my entire adult life and only recently repatriated to the USA. I have never paid into social security so I am not too concerned about it. My husband earns well here and may become eligible for something in 10 years. I haven't looked into it too much because it isn't a pressing thing in our lives. Social security would be extra spending money not our sole source of income if we are ever lucky enough to receive it.

 

I am self employed as a trader and have done pretty well with it. As far as retirement goes we have a privately financed pension out of the UK. I enjoy what I am doing and will remain actively involved in activities that grow my nest egg. I lived all over the world and was never eligible for the free health care because I wasn't a citizen or PR. So have always been self insured. 

 

I love what I do and couldn't imagine ever wanting to retire. Especially on a day like today. The DOW just crossed over the 26,000 mark, truly a thing of beauty.

In most countries just living there is enough to be eligible for healthcare, PR or citizenshio not required.
