stuartd1
Curious to know what the bird is that makes that whooping call, I assume it's a mating call, from early morning through the day this time of year. I can hear but never see them! Can anyone enlighten me?
Puchaiyank
If you live in Pattaya, you might catch a glimpse of this bird moving about looking for a mate as soon as it gets dark...????

eyecatcher
Difficult to understand the sound!...but the greater caucal has a very noisy call, similar to a peacock. however i have been to see which bird is making a very low deep rapid whooping and very surprised to see its a large grey squirrel
stuartd1
Yes Adammike, the Orioles we used to see near our apartment in Singapore had a very similar call but I have yet to spot one here. Wiki describe the call as a " fluty iwee wee wee-leeow" which doesn't seem to match. The squirrel?!
cmsally
This time of the year it is normally the Black Drongo. Just do a google for a youtube video to see if it matches. Normally they are high up in the trees if they call and the sound travels quite a distance.
Foxy52
It's a Greater Coucal a.k.a. Chinese pheasant, although it's actually a non-parasitic cuckoo. Large red/brown birds that spend most of their time foraging on the ground, hidden in undergrowth. I had several of them in my garden in Hong Kong
justmaybe
I just took a tour of YouTube and the one that starts early and stays late near me is surely the Common Asian Koel.
