Department of Special Investigation officers and Ministry of the Interior officials raided a luxury hotel in the south of Koh Samui yesterday in an international money laundering probe.

Some 100 million is believed to have been funneled through activities at the Oriental Lodge.

A company run by the Thai wife of one of the money laundering gang is believed to have acted as a front for the crime.

The Oriental Lodge was also found not to be operating with the required licenses and is being prosecuted separately for this.

DSI chief Phaisit Wongmeuang confirmed the raid at the hotel yesterday as reported by Komchadluek.

Samui vs Pattaya, which one is no1 for criminals?

Phuket ....

I see we have another contender.

Thailand - the hub of criminal activity. Does that make it something else they can be number one at, apart from killing 60-odd per day on the roads?

Just one of many places on samui I would say !! Just walk through fisherman’s village and explain how all the fancy new very expensive buildings make enough money to justify the cost of the rents let alone cost to make the building as they are all mostly empty !!
