Two dangerous problems will make up a disaster.

 

I regularly experience near death experiences by jetski's while freediving and spearfishing, generally 2-3 times a week i will have one in high speed either cross right over the head while descending or coming right at me while at the surface.  It sucks that shore diving in Phuket will automatically mean that you will have to be aggressive and threatening so they won't come back for another run at you. 

 

We like to think we are more educated than thais but truth is that most people who comes here on vacation are clueless idiots. 

 

Tourists on jetski's are attracted to dive flags and islands like flies to buffalo shit.

Not only Thai law, many countries have their maritime laws.

For example the Netherlands you should have a permit (vaarbewijs) for vessels and ''vessels'' that: on full throttle goes faster than 20km/h. A engine with 5HP can reach this speed on light objects.

AND you need it for any longer than 15 meter (Anything slow and not longer than 12 meter, you can use freely). If it is more than 25 meter, you need to have a higher level permit (captain).

 

So

* if you have a heavy block floating, not exeeding the 12 meter and with a 7HP engine, that is ok there as you will not get over then 20km/h limit.

* if you have a very long boat lets say 20 meter, like those in the races with the dragonheads. And just rowing it. You need a license.

* if you mount a 6HP engine to a bathtub, you need one too. And a good bathtub stopper.
