Police are trying to locate a woman who they say gave birth and then abandoned the baby in toilets of Chiang Mai police station.

Police say the woman entered the toilets of Chiang Mai police station at approximately 1.30am an Monday morning.

She then gave birth before fleeing the police station, leaving the baby in the toilets.

The alarm was raised when a maid at the police station heard the sound of a baby crying coming from the toilets.

Rescue workers from the Rumjai Foundation were called who performed first aid on the baby before she was rushed to Maharach Nakorn Chiang Mai hospital.

One of the rescue workers told Sanook News the baby, which was still attached to its placenta, was placed in sink in the toilet.

Police said that CCTV footage is unavailable as security cameras were not working at the time of the incident. However, they say they think they know who the woman is and will be looking at footage from other cameras in the area in a bid to identify here.

Unbelievable, but then again !!

Cameras in a police station not working, someone needs a serious talking too !

I vaguely remember that a policy was announced a few years ago which stated that unwanted babies could and should be left at police stations, no questions asked. Anybody else remember that? If so, why are they asking questions? This seems to be how most "policies" are carried out: announced with great fanfare, then soon forgotten.

yeah, so much for cell watches and monitoring activity, assuming one believes that the CCTV really was not working or "selectively" is not working depending on the issue and people involved.
