Queen Sirirat Botanical Gardens

Went there today, thankfully I was too old to pay an entrance fee, just 30bht for my m/c.

I would have been gutted if I had paid 100bht as it was almost completely worthless, very disappointing.

At least it was a bit cooler than town.

Banana walk was about the best bit, cool and shady, although I couldn't tell the difference between the varieties.

Rather odd; we take all our visitors there and they love it.  Usually we then go to the bottom of the hill, turn left to the Tiger Kingdom for the great Buffet Lunch.  No need to pay to see the Tigers as they bring them out to swim etc in full view of the Buffet.

I went last June and it was also free. Apparently there is one day a week when its free.

I thought for a free attraction is was brilliant but have to admit if i had paid the 100bt I would have said that wasnt worth the trip.

I understand what you say though, it does feel lacking in atmosphere, and staff who are simpky geared up to escorting busloads of schoolkids about.

The insect house was being renovated whilst we were there, so that may have lifted the experience.

The skywalk was a great feat of engineering but it was a half project in that it didnt lead anywhere and the trees were not identified.

Bring back the Royal  Flora exhibition is what I say, that was and will never be beaten for horticultural experience.

If referring to the Royal Park Rajapruek, that is still in existence according to google. Wonderful park and worth a whole day.

Seniors are free, even Farang seniors.   Enjoyable?   Depends upon what you like.   The skywalk was disappointing to me, too, not being interested in just trees and vegetation.   The different pavilions, though, were nice though, giving us different photo ops.   Again, depends upon what you like and if you don't like botanicals, you probably shouldn't go.   And if you have knee problems, probably shouldn't go.

Thier website makes no mention of it...

It's always free if you're over 60, just take some ID with you (I used a Thai D/L).

If under 60, 40bht Thai, 100bht foreigner.

You still have to pay the vehicle charge though (30bht m/c).

I presume we are talking about the Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens

website

It is difficult to tell how interesting it might be on their website. There are lots of common plants that I have in my own garden but if the specialised bits are well done, I might just get around to paying a visit.

We love the place.  Always take visitors there.

They have a many greenhouses, each the different themes in them, the children like the insect eating plants one, there is a beautiful orchid house, one for medicinal plants, water lilies / pond plants, and a hill tribe village themed one, as well as others.  The biggest one is on 2 levels and is a rainforest with big waterfall and koi fish.

If you are over 60 it's free any day.

The sky / tree walk is impressive.  If you are not interested in trees and views then obviously don't bother with it lol.  So quiet and peaceful and cooler weather than in the city.

They have a nice gift shop, delicious cheap and basic Thai food (the BBQ chickens are very good with sticky rice).  Also couple of coffee shops selling snacks too.

Its great for photography also.

I really don't know how anyone can say it not worth going as everyone I have taken there loves it.  But if you are not into nature / plants and walking about then you should not go.  Here are some pics from my last visit about one month ago.

I like it there, but of course I love plants. I've taken visitors there about 3 times and they all enjoyed it.

Don't know about the food situation. Every time I have been there (about 5 times), everything was closed except perhaps a coffee stand. I think they close up for the day if there are too few visitors in the morning to justify staying open.

I am into walking and plants, but QSBC is a very poor effort, poorly laid out, half the exhibits closed.

Couldn't really see the mountain view from the canopy walk through the thick smog.

Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens is so much better.
