Anti-drug police in Chiang Mai province have arrested an American man and a Thai woman in separate raids on two houses in Mae Rim district that were allegedly used as cannabis production facilities.

Police allegedly found cannabis in multiple forms – dried, liquid, tablets as well as plants. Inside one house, there was a laboratory used for producing cannabis products and other drugs.

The American was identified as Joshua Paul Pate, 44, and the woman as Ruewornrat or Amporn Wiriyaathorn, 37.

The arrest resulted from a police investigation into a website that the suspects are said to have operated to sell an illegal drug, known as Dianabal DS, as well as sedatives in the Diazepam group.

The sedatives are used by drug addicts to help them sleep.

Ruewornrat was arrested on February 23 after police allegedly found 100,000 tablets of the sedatives with her at a transportation station in the province. The investigation extended to a house in Soi Duangdee, where chemical precursors were found along with drug production machines and dried and liquid cannabis.

The raid led police to another house in Moo 3 in the same district, where they found more machines. Pate was arrested at this house for allegedly possessing the narcotics and overstaying his visa. The confiscated items were worth about Bt14 million.

The lack of sanity is unbelievable.

But you see it everyday. There is guy in my condo who talks of buying a house, well through his girfriend (wife?). She is a good 20 years younger and has chatted me up on a couple occasions in the car park. uh huh.

Lack sanity ... its there. It is an accident that is going to happen.

Sorry, I fail to see the post topic in your post. It is about a man arrested on Gunja drug charges,

not about you flirting.

Would I be correct to say that medical cannabis is now legal in Thailand? So much news about it one can never be 100% certain. If it is, we going to see many stories like this in the near future. The government and the big players are cutting in on the action. Well, taking the biggest cut. I hope that ordinary people / farmers get the privilege to also make money out of this.

That said, the farang gets 10 to 20 years, and the Thai 500 Baht fine and a wai, maybe a finger point for humiliation for them and entertainment for us.

"The arrest resulted from a police investigation into a website that the suspects are said to have operated to sell an illegal drug, known as Dianabal DS, as well as sedatives in the Diazepam group."

No mention of the MJ quantity but I think this is what the headline should be all about, 100.000 pills of an opiate (correct me if I'm wrong but it's pretty much synthetic opium???)

It is interesting that there has been quite a few MJ seizures/arrests lately at the same time it's been medically legalized...

No opiates, they found Valium, a barbiturate, and Dianabol, an anabolic steroid, both being exported to the US, so he could be looking at an extradition.

Awful reporting and completely clueless. Journalism level can only be described as “Thai.”

Dianabal DS is a steroid.

Diazepam is Valium.

Oh god, there goes my supply.

Tongue in cheek, I no longer use weed. But it would be better to legalise mary jane and really crack down on yaba use.

Because, little crime is done with mary. Yaba is not only dangerous to the user, but everyone else within punching distance.

Legalize them all.

You get control

Revenue.

And the bad boys get zero.

Win, Win, Win.

But i'm sure the world and Thailand will carry on on the same crazy zero progress

root as per norm. :coffee1:

first, get all the supply.  it is ILLEGAL now, so don't be dumb and act like it's not ILLEGAL.  you want to go to jail, cry to mommy, your problem.

Now, once they got the supply..... then they legalize it.... then they sell it.  and then you can maybe buy it.

so, step 1..... raids.    i like this plan.  should make it cheaper when it can be bought, which i will never buy because i don't do...but good for the people who like to be high all day....

My perspective of the new law:

  • Users and possessors of cannabis, who are not patients or organizations qualified to have this drug under the new law, will have to hand over all the marijuana they have when registering for amnesty by May 19 – or 90 days after the promulgation of the new Narcotics Act to receive amnesty .
  • Law does not apply to patients or organizations qualified to have this drug under the new law.
  • State organizations, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, practitioners of traditional Thai medicine and certified folk healers, as well as private higher-education institutes that research or teach medicine and/or pharmacology can have cannabis in their possession if they seek permission.
  • Legally registered community- or social-enterprises, as well as agricultural cooperatives that work with or under the supervision of approved state organizations or private schools, international transport services are eligible for possession.
  • Recreational use of marijuana remains illegal.

The two subject cannabis factories do not appear to fall within any of the provisions under the new law to allow possession or production.

Maybe the two persons weren't yet charged for illegal production and possession because a determination might have to be made whether they can post de facto in some manner conform to legal possession under the new law. More evidence might be required.

Police allegedly found cannabis in multiple forms – dried, liquid, tablets as well as plants.

They may have found "tablets", but that WAS NOT cannabis.

100% sure.

Not even in America can you buy THC in tablet form.  Wrong.

Concentrate in ISOLATE form is available, and has THC-A potency of 85 -95%.

That's as potent as it gets.

I have heard of Big pharma producing "Marinol" or whatever in tablets.  But it's cr@p, 5555.

You used to be able to buy a cannabis tablet in Amsterdam, but that was about 20 years ago, I have no idea these days, I'm too old and boring these days.

Its a plant. Like Pineapples or Orchidaceae. Easy. Weed is for smoking so as to give you the wowsmoothbrainaltered taste of that yummy, sweet, juicy pineapple going down your gullet while you stare at the Orchidaceae.

Hell if you run out of weed, just put your pineapple scraps in a bucket with some Yeast and bread and make some pruno.

Plants are GREAT!!!!!!

A very informative post thanks.

What you have posted is my general understanding of the new law, unlike many other posters on this site who think it’s going to be open slather for every farmer to grow marijuana.

Wishful thinking as It’s not going to happen.
