SOURCE: Pattaya City News: February 28th 2007

Swedish man arrested and charged with illegally exporting drugs from Thailand.

At 7am on Wednesday, Police Colonel Itipon, the Chief of Immigration Police here in Pattaya in conjunction with Police Colonel Itipon from the Narcotics Crime Suppression Bureau in Bangkok served a warrant on Mr. Claes Magnus Ensio Salkojarkvi aged 38 from Sweden at house number 81/24 in Soi Neun Pleub Wan.

He was wanted in conjunction with allegations that he was illegally exporting medication to customers in Sweden. The suspect was taken back to the Immigration Office and evidence was collected at the scene including drugs such as Adrenaline Injections used for the treatment of allergies, Zithromay Tablets which are powerful antibiotics, the antiviral drug Valtrex and a drug known as MST Continus which is a morphine based painkiller commonly used in the treatment of cancer.

Numerous packets of syringes were also collected along with 64,170 Baht and 300 Euros in cash. A Police ID Badge from Stockholm and medals from Thailand which we believe may belong to the Grandfather of the accused were also found but we have had it confirmed from a source at the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok that he is not a Police Officer in Sweden.

Further checks on Mr. Salkojarkvi are now being made and for now he is refusing to confirm or deny the allegations against him despite the evidence collected.

Well you may need drugs, but for the most part Doctor's prescribe the drugs and I doubt the swede is a doctor. So what if he sends the drugs to wrong person and they kill themselves? I think the public good - kind of warrants an arrest especially on a large scale sale of meds.

britmaveric, people who order the drugs from te Swede obviously know what they're buying, and if the drugs were ever sent to the wrong person and that person died, they would deserve itfor being an idiot. What kind of person would reach into his mailbox, find some pills and think "Wow! I better take all of these!"?

he was exporting in a legal way, helping people with life saving medicine is no crime.

asgharvohra, what makes you think he was exporting drugs in a legal way? From the article is sounds like the guy was operating a an unlicensed small time export company out of his home. He might not have had proper permits for the business, and just as likely, no work permit.

I agree with you that selling helpful drugs across borders to make them more accessible to others is a good thing, but it must be done legally, and in this country, you have to be careful not to make any enemies, either.

Based on what was published, I hope they go lightly on him.

hmm i think easier access to drugs is a good thing, not everyone can afford doctors, let alone drugs. if it is sold over the counter in thailand, why couldn't it be like that everywhere?

The Thai Police did take the swede in to custody on request from swedish Police Because he is wanted on drug charge in Sweden, and his passport is revoked so he is staying ileagaly in Thailand.

Thats the only thing the Thais have on him so he is to be deported to Sweden as soon as possible.

Considering that the guy had a fake police badge I seriously doubt that he had any intentions of doing things in a legit way. I think its excellent that they clean up and send home the farang scums and hope he get what he deserves, even if I'm a swede myself :o ... same goes for the stupid Aussie girl trying to pick-pocket me in a discotheque in patpong last year.

I don't get it. somebody also mentioned that he is only out to help poor swedes...

What if he's not. What if he is using the ingredients he purchased cheaply in LOS to go over to Sweden or Holland and aid in the manufacture of highly dangerous party drugs.

Does anybody know the guy who broke the law of the country of which he was a guest?

Like it or not, he was violating the law. Whether he had good intentions or not, he was violating the law. What other question needs to be answered. HE WAS VIOLATING THAI LAW, AND HE IS A VISITOR IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!!

Oh, yes, let the poor saint go. He is only helping those very poor people in Sweden who can't afford to buy antibiotics and painkillers!

Come on, this is not like the guy is sending AIDS medication to Africa. He's a drug dealer, dealing in controlled substances. And by the way, most people don't really know what they are taking, how interacts with other drugs that they may be prescribed or what the side effects are. That's the reason why they are controlled.

facts:

He didnt broke the laws of Thailand !

Staying illegal in Thailand cause Sweden revoked his passport ?!!!

I think, Sweden can not revoke his passport, when he does not stay in Sweden.

Only Thai authorities can do this (take his passport), when he is staying in Thailand. And when thai authorities did not accept his staying in Thailand any more, he can go, where ever he wants.

Its not ok to deport someone, just because another state want this.

f.e.: Would Sweden deport a Thai citizen, who has criticize the military-junta at home, back to Thailand, when the thai authorities would asked for this little favour??

Please no comments, if you have no idea of international laws and fundamental principles of laws.

Sometimes thaivisa amazes me and other times you people (collective you) bemuse me. In the article above you have already decided that the person arrested is an upstanding citizen of Sweden who is doing the "right thing" by sending legally sourced drugs from Thailand back to help the citizens of Sweden who are in desperate need of said drugs. You have no information to verify the facts but have jumped to his defence anyway. Yet only a couple of days ago you (collective you) immediately concluded that two women shot dead on a beach were illegal prostitutes from Russia and executed by Russian mafia for failing to pay their dues to their bosses. That you had no factual evidence did not faze you, nor did it prevent you from thinking for a second that whatever the circumstances or reason two people were brutally murdered on a public beach.

I sincerely hope that the police and courts do not take the same blithely ignorant attitude as is displayed on a regular basis in this forum.

Having suffered a stomach ulcer on a trip back home in Nov '03, I visited a GP (AUD $125.00) He could do nothing but write a referral for a specialist(due to cost AUD$375.00). Due to having no private health insurance in Oz at the time I was not considered a worthy patient(Medicare junky). I was placed on the specialist list for.... Feb 20th '04. Yes, a full 4 months wait!!!! This is the great western medical fraternity.

After consultation over the phone with a pharmacist friend of the family, a little internet research, on return to Thailand I bought across the counter the tri-mix of drugs.. Immediate relief for the ulcer never to return. cost Baht 1250...
