It’s funny reading local news. An Australian bashes Scottish born Australian national .so Australian bashes another Australian , what does  Scottish born has to do with it?

unprovoked? Rather silly term to use also , clearly there was something between the 2 of them previously.

It's labeled as a ThaiVisa story.  Including his birth location is meant to tease out some good natured nationalism.....  See Post #1.

Yes, the source link is a guy's Facebook page, and suggests there was an on-going feud, and names the bar where it took place.

If he was born in Scotland he is obviously a Scottish citizen but if one of his parents had an Australian birth certificate he can get and travel on an Australian passport without ever setting foot in Australia.

'unprovoked'

Being called Cyril is provocation enough.

if this was unprovoked the guy is a scumbag and deserves to see the inside of a jail for many years. Even if words were exchanged at some point in the evening that action is beyond cowardly.

Unprovoked or otherwise, or what ever underlying reasons there may have been, there is no excuse at all for an attack like this. For a younger man to attack someone smaller and older than himself (or anyone else for that matter) from behind and with a weapon is unacceptable.

Cowardice of the highest order. No way at all to resolve your differences, and anyone behaving like that has no place at all in any civilised society.

I agree, regardless attacking someone from behind with a beer bottle to the head, is no different than taking a bat to someones head or knifing them from behind, or just taking out a gun and shooting them...  there is no excuse for that type of behaviour and he should spend a good 10+ years in prison and then deported and blacklisted.  Anyone that can be "provoked" like that should not be on the streets.

More to that than meets the eye. Not condoning it in any way, but there is more to that story.

What that might be?

A guest in my hotel which is near the Triangle Bar and who knows the victim said the attack was completely out of the blue. He had the video on his phone back in mid February.

It happened some time ago and if there had been previous history between the two of them word would have got around by now.

Everyone was gossiping about it at the time and what was so disgusting about it was that it was totally unprovoked. The force with which the bottle was used could have proved fatal.

Yep, either way the guy should get a check up he if has not already, he may not know he is in danger.

Minimum, spinal tap to check for blood in CSF, which indicates bleeding on the brain. Ideally MRI scan or, at least, CT scan.

sort of on the right track. head trauma and loc = ct scan rule out intracranial bleeding and check for things like brain swelling / midline shift.

would usually never do a spinal tap after head trauma to check for intracranial bleeding and can be dangerous if csf pressure is elevated (brain herniation)

anyone know how the guy is doing?

He is not Aussie he is Scottish who also has an Australian passport. An Aussie would be too pissed to do that.

Unfortunately if he has an Australian passport it also means he is legally an Aussie

The blow or the fall could very easily have resulted in the guys death. Says unprovoked but the start of the video the victim is next to the spare chair at the attackers table, looks like he has just left the table, safe to assume he was probably sitting with them.

Can also assume that he said something (maybe untoward) to the woman sitting there?

Anybody know the bar?

Triangle bar?

Yes - it is.

This is the shocking moment a thug smashes a beer bottle over another man's head at a popular drinking bar in the Thai city of Pattaya. CCTV footage of the attack shows a well-built Australian man, 48, following his victim before he tries to leave the Triangle Bar. The unprovoked thug smashes the beer bottle over the man's head, who then falls to the ground instantly

That's nasty, attacking an elderly foreigner completely at random from behind.
