PHUKET:-- Col Santi Sakuntanark, the commanding officer of the Royal Thai Army contingent stationed in Phuket, has assured that Phuket is believed to not be a target following the bomb attacks in Satun and Phattalung yesterday (Mar 10).

However, Col Santi added that security patrols have been stepped up in key tourist areas and main government installations, including Phuket International Airport, as a precaution.

Security searches at the Phuket Check Point at the bridge leading onto the island have been ramped up, with thorough checks being conducted, Col Santi explained.

Some radical bomber is going to see that and say: "Oh, yeah?  Well, we'll show him."

That picture above must be some concerning to a newbie tourist. It could easily garner thoughts of one's own safety, especially coming from a country where seeing army walk through a tourist venue is not exactly a regular occurrence. Martial law anyone?

The Army brass say that it is believed that Phuket is not a target but that doesnt mean the army brass believe it.

They may have their own opinion which IMHO is more important.

I don't care anyway.I I never go down south.

If they have one of the local "captains" then no worries, boat will probably hit an object and sink.

A major security risk has been addressed now tourists have been banned from taking photos of planes landing and taking off over the beach.

So we can all sleep peacefully now.

I don't live my life in fear of tourism, but it would be wrong to think that Patong in not a viable target.
