Help with renewing retirement visa

I am due to renew my retirement visa in 10 days. I am looking to check what forms, photos and information I will need to supply Jomtien immigration with.

I have had over 800,000 baht in my bank for the last 12 months, I live in a house which is in the name of my girlfriend and have done my last two 90 day reports via the internet. I have not been out of the country during the last 12 months.

I have an extension of stay. Sorry, I am 77 and I get muddled up sometimes with all the terminology.

You are getting an extension of stay based on the retirement visa. Depending on your circumstances, you may also need a single or multiple reentry permit. There are plenty of threads on TV specifying what documents are needed. Take everything recommended, as requirements vary from IO to IO.

If you apply for an extension you need:

TM7 form

updatet bank book

bank letter (not older than 3 days so I've been told, others say not older than one day)

photo

passport copies: frontpage, visa, entry stamp TM6(?) (the one you get when entering Thailand.

house paper or a confirmation of the place where you're living.

 

That should be all, but be sure, you'll never have every copy they want :-)

Does my girl friend who is the legal owner  of the house I live in, required to complete anything. Also I recall there used to be a Foreign National Information Form

Why do novice like yourself need nonsense corrections. Op stated RENEW ....meaning renew "permission of stay based on retirement".

Most new that. Move your comments to next thread where you can state " no such thing as retirement visa" .....expert!

The OP said, "I am due to renew my retirement visa in 10 days"(sic)- What are you having a problem understanding?  No mention was made of an extension or 'renew "permission of stay based on retirement",  hence my question.

You might be an "expert" clairvoyant but most are not.

You still don't get it despite the OP admitting he does not have a Visa. It is people like you who cause chaos and confusion with your so-called "expertise.

Well I have been looking for an opportunity to post this sheet given to my pal when he went to Jomtiem last week. (7th March) Nothing surprising in it other than it defines the bank letter must be less than 3 days old. No mention of post application monetary seasoning... I am also told the Thai text is very different... I wonder which applies?

You're being pedantic.  The guy would have a visa of some sort, probably a non-Imm O or OA, and he needs to get an extension of stay annually.  But in casual conversation people often say that they they are extending their visa rather than that they are applying for an extension of stay.

"Casual conversation" leads to misunderstandings, confusion, and errors especially if that "conversation" is conducted in writing in a forum.

Can you think of a way that misundstanding that would have altered his course of action? Whether he calls it an extension of stay or an extension of his visa, he's going to be doing the exact same thing.

File a TM30? Depends on your location though, some offices want it, some don't.

LOL  Thanks for demonstrating the truth of what I say. The OP wrote about RENEWING A VISA! Which cannot be done. Nor can Visas be extended.

If you are discussing the OP you have misquoted as he said "due to renew my retirement visa in 10 days". To renew a Visa, one would have to leave the country, to renew an Extension, or get a new extension he would not. As is, he said 'in Jomtiem' it is clear what he wishes to do.

Paperwork required for Extension of Stay renewal (as well as your passport obviously):

1. TM.7 completed and signed, with passport photo attached (include your phone number by your signature). Blank TM.7.docx
2. Bank letter as well as photocopy of updated bank book pages (the page showing your name/account number and the page showing the updated balance). I generally get that done the day before as I like to be at Immigration first thing in the morning. If you plan on going on a Monday morning, you can get the bank letter and passbook update done on the previous Friday. If you do that and go in on Tuesday or later, they might not accept it and tell you to go redo them.
3. Photocopies of - Face Page of Passport, page showing transfer of Visa from old passport (if applicable), page showing current Extension of Stay stamp (or Current Visa stamp), page showing last entry stamp into Thailand.
4. Photocopy of TM.6 Departure Card.
5. Proof of residence (I used to use photocopies of recent utility bills showing my name/address. If you have a THAI driving license, you could provide photocopies of the front and back of that instead. However, in your case, if you do not have any utility bills, Thai driving license or rental/lease agreement, you will probably need a copy of the the House book - hopefully your name is in it, as well as a copy of your girlfriend's ID card. Hopefully you (or her) did a TM.30 at some point as well as this is your first Extension. (In Jomtien it seems that people who are renewing an existing Extension aren't asked for a TM.30 but that can change anytime without notice. They may not ask for it at all but be prepared in case they do. You might end up having to go for the "lecture" and pay a fine of 1,600 baht.) Or not.  
6. 1,900 baht fee for the Extension. (Non-refundable.)

(Sign ALL photocopies of course - can be done ahead of time as they don't seem to need to see you sign them.)

IF you need a Re-Entry Permit, this is what you will need for that.

NOTE: If you leave Thailand for any reason without a Re-Entry permit - your Extension will be voided and you will have to start the whole process over again as though you just arrived in Thailand for the first time.
NOTE 2: You do not have to get a Re-Entry permit to stay in Thailand and if you decide to take a trip later on, you can go back to Immigration and get a Single Entry permit for 1,000 baht before you leave. If you plan on making multiple trips out of the country, you can get a Multi Re-Entry permit instead (costs 3,900 baht).

 

Paperwork/Photocopies required:

1. Photocopy of Departure Card.
2. TM.8 completed and signed (also include phone number beside signature) and photo attached. TM 8 - Blank.docx
3. Photocopy of Face Page of Passport, last re-entry permit stamp, last arrival stamp and new Extension of Stay stamp.
4. Photocopy of Departure Card

NOTE 3:

1,000 baht (for a Single Re-Entry) or 3,800 baht (for a Multi Re-Entry).

 

This is what I needed - last year - at Jomtien. Quite often when you first arrive at the Jomtien Immigration Office they will check your paperwork quickly to make sure it's in order before giving you a queue number. However, don't take that as being the "final word" on what paperwork you need as the officer at the desk will also check everything and may ask for additional paperwork.

You can get photocopies done in the office if needed (for a small fee).

There is also a company right beside the office that - for a fee - can help you prepare your paperwork and photocopies (and make passport photos if needed).

There is also an ATM at that location in case you need cash.

Different offices may (will) have slightly different requirements. It is best to confirm with your local Immigration office as to what their particular requirements are.

 

Minor hints. From my experience, Monday and Friday tend to be busier than Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. The day before a holiday or after one is usually busy as well. Many people like to go around 10ish in the morning as the "morning rush" is often done by then. Others prefer mid-afternoon. I prefer to go early (7:20-7:30) and read a book while I wait. At Jomtien they normally open the doors and start letting people in around 8:00, but don't start working until 8:30.

Bring a pen with you in case you have to fill out/sign extra photocopies or other paperwork.

Personally, I would recommend making sure you shower before you go and wear decent clothes (long pants or long "cargo" shorts and a polo shirt or another type with a collar and sleeves and shoes). It isn't a requirement (at Jomtien at least) but the idea is to not make a bad impression on the people you are dealing with. It is a government office after all.

 

There are some who think that Immigration should be so grateful for their presence that they shouldn't have to shower or wear clean clothes when they go there. I've stood in line with people that looked, and smelled, like they just crawled off the floor of a bar and headed straight to Immigration, in their dirty beach shorts, stained "wife beater" undershirt and flip flops.
(Yes - there are people who will argue that as Pattaya is a "beach resort" they should be allowed to show up wearing whatever they want.)

 

And some people wonder why they always seem to have problems every time they go. Gee, I wonder if they are the same people ?

That is the old TM8 form. The new one is two pages and needs to be printed two sided.

I normally just open the doc I used the previous year, update it, print and save it with this year's date. The new ones look a little "neater" than the previous versions. I've added them to my folder for next time.

No he would not if on an extension of stay. Any visa that he  had had would have been used or expired. So no visa.

I had to change to the new form when the new TM7 form came out. Just copied and pasted everything into the new form from the doc one.
