Best heat and UV protection for vegetables ?

Recommended Posts

I've always found the netting to be an ideal solution to this problem.

I don't think the colours, black or green, make any difference - could be wrong though.

It's been quite some time since I've had to buy any netting, but I do remember that it's divided into two categories - 50% and I think 70% protection.

Regarding growing tomatoes: even with the net protection, I used to always lose my tomatoes at this time of the year because of the heat so now I simply sow them in Aug./Sept. and that way I can harvest the fruit before the end of the cool season.

Yeah its too hot now for tomatoes, you can try some screen netting. I would get the green, maybe it wont soak up and retain as much heat as black. I think I have seen 80% reduction type. Put in drippers at a low flow rate and run them most of the day but still will prob. fail.
