webfact Posted March 13, 2019 Share Posted March 13, 2019 Monk run over while taking alms outside Chumphon temple By Thanongsak Supakan The Nation A 59-year-old monk making his alms rounds was struck and killed by a speeding pickup truck in Chumphon on Wednesday morning. Police and rescue workers were called to the scene on Pathiu-Chumphon Road in front of Wat Laem Yang (Luang Por Khien) in Pathiu district at 4.30am. Pickup driver Apiwan Bulong, 42, had already been taken to hospital with injuries. Her truck was still at the scene, the body of Phra Kittipong (last name unknown) pinned at the rear of the pickup by the impact. Police determined that Apiwan approached the location at high speed and lost control, spinning into a ditch. That section of the road is being expanded in readiness for increased traffic in and out of Chumphon Airport. The monk’s body was sent for autopsy. Police are waiting to speak to the driver, investigator Pol Lt Colonel Supakit Panaschee said.
