A 50-year-old local woman was injured when a roadside bomb went off in Narathiwat's Bacho district on Thursday morning.

Local resident Jehmoh Sani was being treated at Bacho Hospital.

An initial probe found that the bomb was hidden in a pile of wood on the side of road in Ban Som Poy (Moo 4) in tambon Kayoh Mati. The explosive was possibly intended to harm state officers, but it exploded at about 8.50am when the woman walked past.

On Wednesday night, a group of suspected insurgent opened fire at a border patrol unit's outpost in Ban Sri Phangan (Moo 3) in tambon Koh Sathon of Narathiwat's Tak Bai district. No-one was injured.

The suspected insurgents attacked the outpost at 10.38pm, resulting in a gun fight. The retreating insurgents detonated a bomb in front of the outpost to prevent the state officers from pursuing them.

Police and related agencies were inspecting the scene on Thursday morning.
