Man gives up food for Lent and drinks beer instead - and he's lost a stone

Recommended Posts

Lent has always been seen as a time of fasting or giving something up.

The 46 day period runs from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday and can be a real challenge for those who decide to set aside their vices.

However one man has found the first week of Lent to be a breeze, despite giving up all food.

Del Hall, from Cincinnati, Ohio made the shocking decision to forgo eating altogether and instead only consume beer, having between two and five beers a day.

Hall, who works at Fifty West Brewing Company and is an army veteran, says his plan was inspired by the fasting rituals of 18th century Bavarian monks.

And after taking on the challenge for a few days, he claims to have lost over a stone, but stresses that this isn't a new kind of "diet" people should try.

Speaking on his YouTube Channel, he said: "I'm having anywhere from two to five beers a day, I'm not necessarily drinking in the morning, I'm not a breakfast person, so I get up, I have some water and I have a black coffee, no sweetener, no dairy in it, just black coffee.

"I have my first beer sometime in the afternoon and then I might have one when I'm feeling peckish.

"The majority of the beers I'm drinking are at home, so when I get home at night I might have say two to three beers here at the house and that's pretty much a typical day."

Hall went on to explain that he "likes" fasting, so isn't finding Lent too big of a deal.

Despite this, he admitted that the first few days were "pretty rough" as the cravings (for Taco Bell) were intense.

"On Ash Wednesday, I only had one beer, then day two and day three were pretty rough, a lot of hunger," he continued.

I think that Thai Visa should take this posting down as it is encouraging a potentially dangerous activity. Alcohol can cause the blood sugar to fall and if you are not eating you could get a severe sugar low and probably worse. In addition, alcohol can dehydrate - although drinking beer will compensate since there is so much water in the beer. Doing this for forty days would be hell as beer will make you hungry, assuming that you survive 40 days. It would be much better if you just fasted for a few days.

Actually tried something similar a few years ago - just pineapple and Heineken. Lost  (a little) weight over a week but stopped after becoming heartily seek of Heineken. Still like pineapple though. Will perhaps try again with Chang after Easter.

An idiot friend of mine did a beer diet for three or four weeks in the UK when we were in our 20s. He was a strong lad but got very sick! Lost a fair bit of pud though. 😁
