webfact
Wanted man drowns after being spotted at polling station By The Nation A fugitive drowned in a temple pond after he was reportedly spotted by police during advance voting in Bangkok’s Bang Khen district on Sunday. Nattawat Pukaew, 43, was wanted for alleged frauds in 19 cases. Arrest warrants have been issued for him by courts in several provinces. Wearing a wig, he apparently tried to disguise himself as he walked into the Bang Khen District Office to cast his ballot. Police, however, were on alert there after they found his name as a person registered for advance voting. Nattawat reportedly noticed one policeman signal another policemen to keep a watch on him once inside the district office. S, he ran away and entered the nearby Phra Si Mahathat Bang Khen Temple and reportedly jumped into its pond. Once police arrived at the temple, they found only his shoes. Security guards at the temple said the man jumped into the water shrugging off their pleas. There is a major distinction, I think, between serving policemen, and those who used to pretend to do that job.

Nyezhov
Shows that Thai sociopolitical-religious feudalism exists in even the most degraded of the polity. The sociological implications are fascinating and well deserve more treatment than trite comments.
