ZAKY
Remaining westerners are the ones that no choice as all their funds either locked in property or in wife’s otherwise many have already switched to neighbouring countries for their hospitality and welcomming nature which are no more here. Nobody who is wealthy spending his own money here likes to be thrown in the same basket and get the humiliation of being checked openly in public by the immigration police in the same way as those who are wanted for overstaying. Thailand, as a SE Asian 'wunderkind' is finished now, what we're seeing now are the economic death-throes of an essentially greedy and lazy nation. Been a while coming, but hastened by the incompetent military government. *shrug*. I'm alright Jack.Come what may and forgive my lack of sympathy, but I've seen how these people behave over the past 20-odd years and I have no sympathy left. Som nam na. Lucius verus
TAT is so ignorant about the world. Everything to them revolves around MASS. The bigger the number of tourists the bigger the money we make. Indians spend big only on themselves ie. weddings, family events, lavish jewelry and houses. Indians are not going to throw money at these Thais with their fake smiles and corrupt police intimidating everyone with their awful uniforms and street parades. Indian jewelry is superior to Thai buying houses is dangerous & insane and tourism revolves around overpriced scams. Forget it. Very few Indians,Chinese and Russians are wealthy and those that are won't come here. Indian men will come here on Pattaya sex tours. 6 men rent two large hotel rooms and barfine 2 hapless bargirls for the day. They cook food in their rooms with utensils they packed in their luggage. Same modus operandi as Sri Lankans. Indians and Chinese will take Thai cooking classes? 555 . Thai food is a fusion of their cuisine.TAT is a joke. Farangs and expats are the bread and butter of tourism and welfare in LOS. We all leave its over.

Seems fair, but look at it from the POV of Thais. They have to have some mechanism that allows them to feel superior in what is essentially a 3rd-world country full of 3rd-world people with poor educations. Other opportunities are few. Inventions are few and rarely original, innovations are few apart from putting a toilet roll on restaurant tables. LOS is not very inspiring really, so they rely on xenophobia to feel superior. You're right about the Immigration police. but bear in mind their education is as minimal as everyone else's. They go to some bottom ranked university in Thailand (Rajapat or something similar), they come out with a degree in something or other easy but can't tell you where rain comes from. They have to pretend to their peers that they're somehow better than someone and foreigners are an easy mark. It's a cultural charcteristic in Thailand; try not to be hard on them, too many of them are suicidal as it is, mental illness abounds.

Is it possible that the West is in its decline while Asia is prospering? If yes, I would suggest that Farangs get used to it.
unamazedloso
why doesn't this country look at something other than stealing foreign money like perhaps manufacture something using thai labor?.. No one with half a brain that doesn't have a wife, husband or kids here would want to retiree here. I dont think the air is clean enough for the oldies even the indian variety that know a thing or 2 about pollution.
Caine
Oh goodness gracious me, talk to any ordinary Thai they absolutely hate Indians. But I suppose they can fake their approval like everything else fake here. Ever seen an Indian in a Thai restaurant, so why would they want to learn how to cook Thai food when theirs is far superior.
