Re ; Phu Du, Uttaradit - Paklay [ Paklai ] International Border Checkpoints

Recommended Posts

Dear Fellow Posters,

Is the Phu Du, Uttaradit, Thailand - Paklay [ Paklai ], Laos International Border  open for entry / departure & vice versa by EU passport holders ?

If "Yes", are there special considerations to factor in that are different than those involved with crossing the border at Friendship Bridge, Nong Khai, Thailand - Vientiane, Laos & vice versa ?

Thanking you in advance for all your helpful replies,

Our Man in the Tropics

Information in the forum is quite old (2015, 2016) and at that time it was not possible to get a visa on arrival at the Laos checkpoint (only doable with getting visa ahead).

As I can hardly remember this name from the forum I am bit skeptic.

I hope someone has more recent info/experience.

There is no Lao visa on arrival available at that crossing.

It is number 24 on this list on the Lao Immigration website. See: http://immigration.gov.la/checkpoints.html

I assume if you had a Lao visa or qualify for a visa exempt entry for Laos (https://www.laos-guide-999.com/visa-exemption.html) you could use the crossing.

Great Information in those 2 links Ubonjoe ;

I wonder what is easiest AND cheapest way to get Visa & Extension & Multiple Re-Entry Permit so as to allow the EU & USA & Canadian & Australian bearer to re-enter Laos as often as requested without involving new visas or visa-exemption entry stamps for each event ?

Perhaps like having Multiple Re-Entry Permit & without fees for each re-entry & the departure also.

There would be no way to get around the entry and departure stamps. About the same for needing a new visa for entry to Laos which means a full page visa sticker if not visa exempt. There is no multiple entry visa for Laos that would be easy to get .

There is general info on Lao immigration website.

I have seen reports that one needs to use an agent in Lao for a "business visa" at a price - but I am not familiar with the conditions; maybe someone who has done this can advise.

As pointed out, you'd still get stamped in/out each time, but at least no new sticker each time.
