Three family members were killed and another severely injured when their pickup was hit by a train at a rail crossing in Nakhon Sawan's Ta Klee district on Wednesday morning.

Police said the accident happened at the rail crossing in Ban Nong Phang Puay village in Tambon Hua Wai at 8am. The crossing has no barriers and traffic signal.

The pickup, driven by Bussaraporn Padungjit, 49, was hit by the Taphan Hin-Bangkok train, driven buy Kamjak Palpibal.

Bussaporn was killed in her pickup along with Chaweewan Klinboon and Thanadol Padungjit, 11. Another woman, Naruemol Padungjit, 60, was injured as the impact hurled her out of the truck.

The train driver told police that he just drove the train from Hua Wai and saw the truck was on the crossing.

The driver said he used his horn but could not stop in time.

The train dragged the pickup for about 20 metres.

Relatives told police that Bussaraporn was taking her family to make merit at a temple in Nakhon Sawan's Tha Tako district.

The other paper reported she stalled on the tracks, saw the train, attempted to reverse but was blocked by cars behind her. There was no explanation as to why she did not drive foreward.
