Thaksin is in Hong Kong. Thailand wants to extradite him.

The exiled former Thai PM, Thaksin Shinawatra, is in Hong Kong to be part of the wedding party in the marriage of his youngest daughter Paetongtarn ‘Ing’ Shinawatra to a commercial pilot, Pidok Sooksawas.

Thai authorities are seeking the extradition of the exiled former PM from Hong Kong, according to local HK media. Many of the powerful Shinawatra clan are descending on the Chinese city for the wedding ahead of Sunday’s general election.

Thaksin is either a hero or criminal, depending on your side of the Thai political fence. He has outstanding charges and a prison sentence awaiting him if he ever sets foot back in Thailand. Thaksin, who was PM from 2001 to 2006, was deposed in a coup and has been in self-exile since 2008 to escape criminal charges he says are trumped up by the military and establishment.

Oh just stop this nonsense.

Thaksin is NOT going to be extradited. Ever. Period.

Countries do NOT extradite Democratically-elected, over-thrown Prime Ministers to the Military Regime that over-threw them; it does NOT happen.

And, Thailand has not even submitted a formal request for extradition (according to the story).

The reason that Thailand has not even submitted an extradition request is because they know that it will not be honoured. It will not be honoured because Thailand's judicial system is not seen as being up to international standards in general and this case reeks of political overtones specifically. And, if Thai Authorities try to push for extradition, then countries will be forced to state that Thailand's judicial system is not up to international standards, and Thailand will be humiliated.

The only way that Thaksin (or Yingluck) will return to Thailand is if they choose to do so.

Period.

End of discussion.

The only 'Hero' part about Thaksin is that he throw money willy nilly everywhere and at everybody, and that what thai people like, give me money and do what you like, other then that, he's nothing but a self serving politician out there to enrich himself like all the others...

Gee...it would be really funny (and wonderfully entertaining) if Hong Kong declared in a mega-news conference that Thaksin had already been detained and would be put on a plane to Thailand...first thing tomorrow morning.

Nothing but a criminal who gave away the countries money and filled his own pockets with billions. After all, 77% of Thais are ok with corruption as long as it benefits them. When politicians here talk about ending corruption it must be understood that means ending other peoples corruption, not their own.

The government would never allow it, they would have to kill him quickly or go to war with him and probably lose.

This clown show continue and brought up to humour us. The fact is that the statute of limitations on the Ratchadaphisek land case expire on October 21 2018. He no longer can be brought onto the prosecution process. Junta Law Minister Wissanu said that himself. This extradition talk is another brain fart by the junta.
