webfact Posted March 20, 2019 Share Posted March 20, 2019 PM follows up on Red Line commuter rail project BANGKOK, 21 March 2019 (NNT) - Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha followed up on the construction of the Red Line commuter rail project at Bang Sue Grand Station which is now 86% complete and expected to open in November. He inspected progress of the Red Line commuter rail project, which includes the construction of Bang Sue Grand station to serve as a central hub for rail and metro systems. Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said Bang Sue Grand Station will become the biggest and most modern rail transport hub in the ASEAN region, enabling passenger connections between long- distance rail, high-speed rail, airport rail links and the metro systems. The station will also provide conveniences in passenger transfers to other modes of transportation, such as long-distance buses operated by the Transport Company, and buses in Bangkok operated by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority. Areas around the station will be developed under the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) approach. The Red Line construction is now 86% complete and expected to be 100% complete in November 2019, after which the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will conduct trial runs in Bang Sue - Rangsit and Bang Sue - Taling Chan sections in January 2021.
