Reel-to-reel transfer to digital

similarly, we had some 8 mm film transferred to vhs tapes.  My sister just found some service/company and they did it.  Now we need to get those VHS to CDs or files.  In your case check online.  A quick search online showed several companies that you mail  your tape to and they will process it for you.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have searched and found a company that does this service. But they have a minimum of 3 items and I only have one reel-to-reel tape. They refused to do only one. So I am still searching. Cheers

Download the free Audacity software. Play your reel-to-reel through your computer and record with Audacity in reel real time. One tape should not be a big deal, will just take a few hours.

Thank you. Yes I know how to do that.

But I am looking for a reel-to-reel machine to play old tapes into Audacity.

Do you know of anyone who has a machine for sale or even just to rent for a few hours ?

are you talking a standard reel to reel like from the 1960's  quarter inch tape?  or something like half inch or 1 inch tapes from a recording studio?

I had a great old teak that i just never used and tried to give it to the goodwill and they refused to take it.   They didn't know what it was!

Does anyone know of someone with a working REEL-TO-REEL tape recorder ?
I have ONE tape which I would dearly love to transfer to digital.

I bought a Akai 4000DS. back in 1973
Currently it resides with my son in UK
He transferred my last recordings onto a CD
I will ask to help if you are interevsted
The tape will have to be shipped back to UK
Or as I will see him August this year
I could take it with me
I reside In Pattaya
At this stage I know little about the state of the machine

Thank you for your reply.

I am hoping to find some one locally with a machine.

If nothing comes of it before August I will get back to you.

Many Thanks !

It rather depends on how valuable the material on that tape is to you.

You could go back to that company and offer to pay them the price for three tapes just to do the one. Expensive for you but great business for them!

Also, if you're in Bangkok I have a friend there who I know has several open-reel machines. Cannot make commitments on his behalf but if you are in BKK I can email him a link to this thread and/or your contacts - he might wish to make some money - PM me if you're interested - no promises, it goes without saying.

When I was like 10 years younger with the time I seems did this all in my local computer or audio-video repair shop, I think it's impossible to do in home conditions anyway. So be prepared to spend some. But look on the web - maybe it's there already.
